Advantages: Reasonably priced food. Nice decor

Disadvantages: Slow service for what is average food.

My girlfriend and I went along to Mexxa Mexxa on the recommendation of friends who had told us that the rack of ribs was huge and delicious...which I have to say sounded extremely tempting (even as I type this, the thought of a nice bbq rack of ribs has got my mouth watering!).

We had not really planned to go, it was one of those spontaneous evenings that happen from time to time. I just suggested we go out and we ended up at Mexxa Mexxa as there were a few tables free and we both remembered the promise of the yummy ribs.

We went in and were seated at a small table towards the back of the restaurant. The restaurant is not the biggest of places but it quite nice inside and has been decorated in a nice lively mexican type, nice and bright and lively and salsa-esque.

Our order was taken quite quickly, along with our drinks order. The drinks took quite a while to arrive despite there being plenty of staff for the number of customers. Having been a waiter when I was younger, in a rather more upmarket and far busier restaurant than your standard chain restaurant, I know what it is like to be a waieter and also know what it is to be really really busy and having to be rushed off your feet for an entire service and still provide good service...this was not the case at Mexxa Mexxa. As I have said, our drinks order, a simple beer and a lemondade, took too long to arrive and as for our starter...

To start we had ordered a dish of garlic mushrooms to share, these took about 25 minutes to appear and when they did it really was nothing special tht required more than a few moments to preoare, certainly nothing to justify such a wait when the restaurant was as quiet as it was! To eat, the mushrooms were very nice, they had been pan sauted in garlic and butter and a few herbs, and were very tasty.

Once we had finished the mushrooms, we waited for what seemed an age for ourt dish to be cleared and then even longer for the main course to arrive. In the mean time we asked for a jug of iced water and 2 glasses.

We had both ordered the BBQ rack of ribs which came with chips, and form our friends description, were expecting a huge rack of juicy ribs and a great big pile of chips.

What we actually got (eventually - this took a lot lot longer than it should have done to come) was a fairly good sized rack and an ok portion of chips, nothing to write home about really. The BBQ sauce was very tasty and the meat ont he ribs was tender, though I have to add that this was not one of the best racks of robs I've ever had, there was not a huge amount of meat on them which was disappointing. The chips were your standard pre-prepared from frozen one which you get in most places. Overall I would say this was an average dish that you could find in any number of 'budget' eateries, not worth going out of your way for.

Overall I would say our experience of the Maidstone Mexxa Mexxa was distinctly average, the food was fairly tasty but nothing really special and not of a standard that would make me keen to recommend them. The restaurant itself had quite a nice feel about it with the bright lively decor and some nice salsay music playing at just about the right volume. The service was not even close to being up to the standard I would expect from even the most average of chain restaurants, the food took ages to come out, our table took ages to be cleared and as for our jug of iced water and two glasses....even after remind two different waiters....it never arrived!!!

Summary: There are much better places to eat in Maidstone!!!
