DON'T GO THERE FOR ANY REASON.

This is my HORRIBLE experience with this (let’s say) hotel (but it is an abused word… it’s less than a stable) where I strongly suggest NOT to go for any reason in the Universe, as they are dirty, rude, unprofessional and trickster.

I had booked a room in a hotel in Norwich, but my navigator was not able to find it. I was scared not to be able to find a place where to sleep for the night so (what an infinite misfortune), when MJB signboard appeared on my road, I decided to stop there and to ask if they had the availability of a room for the night.
It was 15.23. The (let’s say) receptionist (more similar to a farmer than a receptionist, to be honest, with all my respect for the farmers) said that I could stay there for the night. At 15.25 I was paying for the night with my credit card and going back to my car. Of course I had also asked for a parking space, as it was included in the price of the room and he assigned me one.
The (let’s say) hotel is composed by several buildings in the same city and I was assigned to a building different from the one where there was the (let’s say) reception (a warehouse looks nicer), so I had to go to another part of the city. He drew a little map for me, explaining me how to arrive there.

I was going back to my car when the (let’s say) receptionist called me back, informing me that in the other building there was a fire (what’s a safe place), so I should stay in the reception-building for the night.
He assigned me another room and I was thinking that everything was ok with this.

But this was just the beginning of a nightmare.

When I opened the door of my room the only thing I wanted to do was to run away from that horrible place: smelling, dirty, uncomfortable, old… I know the price is low, but I have been in thousands hotels around the world and, even the super cheap ones, were not so disgusting.
The carpet is smelly, old and dirty.
The furniture broken and dirty. There wasn’t even a bedside table or a lampshades for the night: you had to stand up in the darkness and to reach the main switch, having the light in the whole room (that is horrible if another person is sleeping with you).
There isn’t a desk or a little table (I had to work on my laptop sitting on the bed), no mirror a part from a microscopic one, everything is uncomfortable and not justifiable by the not so high price (which isn’t even so low).
The bathroom was so old and dirty that it seemed to have been built in the Middle Age.
The towels and the bed linen were white two centuries ago, now they are just grey and dirty.
I have had several experiences during my life, but I have never cried for a hotel room. And I did this for that room. ABSOLUTELY disgusting.
But I had an interview the following day and I had work to prepare, so I couldn’t spend more time looking for another place where to stay.

As I said that was just the beginning of a nightmare.

The following morning I found a penalty notice on my car’s glass.
I asked for details to the receptionist (a different one from the previous afternoon) and she realized that her colleague hadn’t assigned my car to the same building of my room, after that he had changed my room the previous day. I asked her if she could withdraw the penalty, as it was evident that it was not due, but she said that she had to speak to her manager and I had to phone them at 13.00.
I did, but the (let’s say) manager (he is the rudeness and the arrogance made person… I still cannot realize how a such similar ignorant person can be defined “manager” of anything, even of a stable) was not available, then he was not on duty, then he was on holidays and so on.
I carried on with the phone calls and emails for days.
I sent them all my documents (receipts of my payment, receipts for the room change…) and they didn’t reply for days.
At one point they wrote “The penalty has been deleted”, without any sign, without any name, without any other information in the email.
It was March and I thought everything was solved.

But yesterday (July, four months later) I received a communication of a penalty of 149.00 pounds to be paid.
I phoned to the parking company and they explained me that they can just monitor the payments, but the only one able to cancel not due penalties is the hotel.
      I phoned them several times.
The girl at the reception told me that she needed the email with the details to answer me. When I sent her the email, she didn’t reply. I phoned again and she said that she had to speak to the parking company the following day. I phoned again the following day but the person at the reception told me that I had to speak to the (so called) manager and so I had to phone again after 14.00. I phoned again and this has been the most horrible experience I had as customer, the ignorance and the rudeness the so-called-manager showed were higher than a convict delinquent, not a person working with customers. What an idiot.
I asked him why, if they wrote that my penalty had been canceled, I had received a notice four months later.
He started shouting at me that there were two penalties for my car: one had been deleted, the other one was due because I was in the parking too early (15.25 in spite of 16.00).
I was really shocked as nobody told me anything about this second penalty for four months and on my car there was JUST ONE notice. How could I know this if they wrote that the penalty had been cancelled?
He continued shouting “Shush” and he also shout that he would have closed the conversation, not answering to my following calls, if I had continued complaining and talking. And he really closed the phone call.

I was so shocked that seriously I could not realize that someone so rude is managing a business.

I phoned again to inform him that for first there was just one notice on my car and for sure they cannot charge me a second penalty if I was paying for the staying at their reception. He said that nobody is due to inform me about this and I was wrong because I was there before of 16.00 and there was no way to admit that, if I was paying for the night for which I didn’t book before, he could consider me as a customer just for the few minutes I spent in their parking area just to pay (as I left it as soon as I had done, looking for something to eat).
For second I would have asked the assistance of a lawyer, as there was an only penalty notice on my car: how could I know about the second one, especially considering that they had written that the penalty had been withdrawn, without saying anything about the second one?
And he continued with his complete rudeness and disrespect.

Yesterday afternoon I paid the penalty (149 pound in spite of the initial 60, if I had known it), because he is so infamous and vile that he is not able even to say his name and surname, so it is like you are speaking to nobody and there is no proof of his rudeness (I didn’t record that absurd phone call) and because I don’t want to pass to the next step (1000 pounds to be paid).

But for sure I need to do some things:
      1) to inform the whole world of what happened with me in that (let’s say) hotel, in order to let you understand that it is better if you sleep in your car in spite of going there and being really in trouble with them
      2) to inform the whole world that, if you absolutely need to sleep there, it’s better if you record everything when they talk or speak to you at the phone
      3) to underline that, after having read the other reviews yesterday, I realized that there is for sure a deal between them and the parking company, as it is not conceivable as a so careless place managed by so rude and unprofessional people can survive on the market without being closed by any Authority and also having a profit: for sure their profits come from the parking penalties, not from the rooms about which they don’t care at all
      4) I will contact a lawyer to ask for an advice

      Cheap accommodation in Norwich

When looking at where to stay in Norwich for a weekend with my boyfriend, I had no real idea of where to stay. Luckily, our friend who lives in Cromer told me about MJB apartments which she had used before and they were a hell of a lot cheaper than any hotel I could find. There are quite a few different apartments from MJB around Norwich and the one we stayed at was 95D Upper St Giles Street. The apartment we stayed in had 2 double bedrooms and cost £35 in total per night booking through laterooms.com.95D is situated only a 5 minute walk from the market place in the city centre or a 20 minute walk from the train station. The apartment is easy enough to find if you know Norwich quite well but if like me, you don't, it could be a bit hard to find the first time. However, my boyfriend does know his way around so we found it really easily.

About a week before your stay if booked that far in advance you will be emailed a key code for the front door which works the same for the apartment door. Once we got through the front door, we realised that there were 3 apartments in total here. It did worry us slightly that the key code could possibly be the same for all 3 apartments. It's not a nice feeling thinking that the people staying in the other apartments could also get into ours. 95D is on the third floor and with no elevator, I was glad that I didn't bring much luggage with me. I also smoke and as the apartment is non-smoking, it meant going up and down the stairs each time I wanted a cigarette.

Upon entering the apartment, I was quite happy. The 2 double bedrooms were large and very spacious, each having somewhere to hang clothes. In one bedroom, the actual bed was slightly broken but still quite comfortable and safe to sleep on. Each bedroom also has basic furniture like a desk and a lamp. Although the bedrooms were not as nice as those in a hotel, at £15 a room a night, I can't really complain too much. The apartment also has a massive bathroom with bath and overhead shower and a heated towel rail. The living room is very large with a table, bookcase, 4 chairs and a TV/ DVD player and a few films to watch. I was quite disappointed that the living room didn't have a sofa though as it meant that my boyfriend and I couldn't sit together. The kitchen was quite small but had everything we needed like a dining table, microwave and a fridge as well as cutlery and plates etc.

The décor throughout was quite strange and nothing matched at all. However, the bedding was clean and fresh towels were provided in each bedroom. Although this apartment is not up to hotel quality, the price makes up for that. We stayed for 2 nights, costing £70 in total. If this was split between the 4 people able to stay there it would only cost £8.75 per person per night which is a bargain. This apartment isn't perfect but the price is too good to pass up, especially when we weren't actually there a lot.
