A lovely Chinese Restaurant in London

Mr Kong is a little Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown, Soho, London that I think is just fantastic. I have been to the restaurant 4 times and my husband has visited on several other occasions when he has been in London on business. It's a restaurant you know is good because not only does it attract tourists and people visiting the theatre but it also has a good number of Chinese customers too. According to his website he has been there for 25 years. The restaurant is on Lisle street close to Leicester Square. The restaurant consists of three rooms, a smaller room at the front and a larger one down a few steps at the back. There is also I believe another room upstairs but I have never eaten in there so don't know how big that room is. The restaurant sells a good selection of Chinese foods with most of your usual favourites and some more specialised choices. You get three menus the regular, vegetarian specials, and chef's specials. The staff are all very polite and friendly and the service is quick. The tables are all nicely set with linen tablecloths and napkins (my mother would approve!). For those going in large groups there are some big round tables at the back of the restaurant with a turntable in the middle so you can easily share lots of food around without reaching over everybody. We like this restaurant so much we visited twice during our recent short stay! The first time we ate we had 2 portions of Dim Sum choosing steamed pork dumplings and prawn dumplings, crispy chilli beef and sweet and sour prawn with 2 portions of rice and 2 cokes. The meal came to about £40. The second time we had the dim sum again, crispy seaweed, crispy duck and then one main meal between us with egg fried rice. The food always tastes lovely and is nicely served in Chinese bowls. You are given chopsticks to use but if you struggle with these you can ask for cutlery and they will bring you some. At the end of your meal they bring you slices of fresh juicy oranges for you to clean your palate and some hot damp cloths to clean your hands which is a nice touch. The toilets are situated upstairs and are nice and clean. The style is somewhat unique with nice modern basins sitting on plinths but then the toilet seats have seashell patterns on them which doesn't quite go with the modern theme! We have never actually booked for the restaurant but have always managed to just turn up and get a table. However we have always gone midweek so I imagine at a weekend it might be much busier so booking may be advisable. Service is always quite quick which is great when you want to have a fast turn around to get out to the theatre. However you never feel rushed and we had to ask for our bill so you don't feel that they are trying to get you in a hurry. Mr Kong is a lovely Chinese restaurant in London and although there are lots of others Chinese restaurants nearby I really like this one and am reluctant to be tempted to try anywhere else! Mr Kong will definitely be on my list of places to eat out on my next visit to London.
