Advantages: Variety
Disadvantages: None
I have been to a number of restaurants in my time and will try to narrow it down to my favourite 10 in London. In no particular order.
1) Sofra. This is a Turkish restaurant chain that has numerous restaurants in London.
These are situated at St.Christophers Place (Just off Oxford St), Covent Garden, Mayfair and St.John's wood.
The particular branch I am reviewing is St.Christophers Place. The restaurant itself does get quite busy with there often being a queue, however you do tend to get offered a glass of wine if you are waiting for a while. There is both inside and outside seating.
The food itself comes in a variety of forms, there is the regular starters, mains and desserts, with a good variety for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Dishes offered include Tagines, Meatballs, Halloumi, Mezze etc.
The option I typically go for are one of the Mezze platters, or the set menu's which work out to be great value! These vary but start at roughly £10.95 for a dinnertime menu, where you get a meal plus a glass of wine.
I find it to be a great restaurant to go with friends, family, or a loved one, the service is always friendly and it is a place where you can relax and just enjoy the food.
2) Masala zone, an indian restaurant situated Soho, Covent Garden, Islington.
The food options vary from main meals to street food to thali's and set menu's. The food is very tasty whereby you can distinguish the various spices used and with there being specials that change regularly. The menu is great value too. Average price for meal and drinks £10 - 20 depending on how much you order. Of course you could spend a great deal more if you wished to order a large amount.
Great atmosphere, great food, great value.
3) Golden Hind, Fish and Chips restaurant, situated in Marylebone, near Baker St/Oxford Street.
This is a fish and chip restaurant that is reasonably priced, with the option to Bring Your Own bottle. This can work out to be a great option as often in London wine can be costly. The food is of good standard, and it is a great place if you fancy some fish and chips whilst out and about.
The restaurant is quite small and cosy, so it may be worth reserving a place. However this is not necessary all the time.
4) Mon Plaisir. This is London's oldest French Restaurant, situated in Covent Garden. It has a cosy atmosphere with a traditional french vibe, the menu can be costly, however there is a great value set menus £13.50/£15.50 with a glass of wine and a coffee, which are great for before/after the theatre.
The food varies, and there is not a great deal of choice on these set options, however if you are open to trying out new things, or are not a fussy eater, then I recommend you give it a go.
It is something different from other restaurants and makes for a great dining experience.
5) Patara. This is a thai restaurant situated in Soho, Knightsbridge, Oxford Circus, South Kensington.
The food is high quality, however it can be on the pricey side, so it's good to keep an eye out for offers. There is a range of dishes from milder to the hotter, yet each is tasty with a range of ingredients used that really can be tasted.
The decor is pleasant and quite calming.
6) Giraffe, offering a range of cuisines with a range of situations, such as North London, Southbank, this restaurant is great for the variety it offers at a great price. The meals are reasonable with set menu's on offer also, the atmosphere is pleasant.
7) Pizza Express. This is a chain of restaurants serving items such as pizza, pasta and salads. Whilst there is nothing that special about this restaurant, I find the food to be of good quality with a good atmosphere and reasonably priced. There have recently been numerous offers on also, such as 2 for 1, which makes it even better value!
8) Gaucho Grill, great for meat lovers, although it is on the pricey side! I would say it is quite a smart looking restaurant, where there is excellent service and a great atmosphere. The steak melts in the mouth! One of the few places I enjoy a steak in a restaurant. The menu is a mixture of your typical steak house mixed in with ingredients that may seem a bit risky, but work well.
If you can afford it, then definitely give it a go!
9) La Tasca. Spanish Tapas, situated in Covent Garden and also other places. Check the website for details. There is a wide variety of food on offer, with reasonable prices. It is quite a fun way to dine, sharing smaller dishes so you get to try a few things. Great with friends or a loved one!
10) Wagamamas. Japanese style food, locations from Oxford Street, Islington, Richmond to London Bridge. There is a wide variety of Japanese food on offer here, where one dines in the form of benches. The food is good, the dining seating is not the best option but it is acceptable.
Summary: My chosen 10
