Advantages: Good food, good prices

Disadvantages: Some self service involved

Nando's is one of my personal favourites. It's a bit better than real fast food, like McDonalds or KFC, but not quite a 'proper' restaurant (price wise).

The food is Portuguese and it's pretty much just chicken, although I think there is one steak thing on the menu! They cook the food in Piri Piri sauce to your desired heat from Lemon & Herb to Extra Hot.

I've found that there are lots of Nando's restaurants near to me, the most seem to be in London though.

When you arrive at the restaurant, they find you a table and put a wooden rooster in the centre. I'm not entirely sure what the roosters are for - I think they take them away after they've checked that everything's ok with your meal. Anyway, they give you your menu and, when you've decided what you want, you go to the counter with your table number to order and pay for your food. If you want to give a tip, this is where to do it as they have a box for tips at the counter. Seems a bit strange as I'd usually leave a tip at the end, after I see if their service is any good! They usually provide you with your drinks at the point of ordering. Soft drinks are self-service and you can have unlimited free refills. You also help yourself to cutlery, napkins and sauces.

The food usually arrives fairly quickly and everything I've had to date has been well cooked and delicious!

They also have a dessert menu, which is quite varied. Again they have an unlimited free refill option with their frozen yoghurt - another self service machine for this.

One of the advantages is that you've already paid in advance so no sitting around waiting for the bill to arrive at the end of the meal - just up and go when you're ready.

I can't think of any disadvantages to Nando's. Maybe if you don't like to order food at the counter and prefer more of a waitress service, but then I guess it wouldn't be the best place for you to go.

If you like chicken, a little bit of spice and affordable prices, Nando's is a great place to go!

Summary: Upmarket fast food

do you know about the loyalty card? get it stamped a few times and every few stamps you get a free quarter / half / full chicken - very handy! Wish it was free range though
