Advantages: Nice food and good service
Disadvantages: Have to do some of the service yourself
I had my first experience of visiting a Nando's on Thursday last week. The one we visited was at Westfield. It was upstairs in the shopping centre and was easy to find. We got to the door and we were immediately asked how many for and were taken to a table. The table was quite nice as was by a window which I like as I enjoy looking out. The waiter asked if we had been to Nando's before. As my boyfriend had been before we said yes. Otherwise I think they explain how the whole thing works.
The restaurant was buys but not full so there was plenty of room for people to sit. Most of the tables were for small parties but I am sure they could cater for a larger party.
The menu mainly had various types of chicken meals including chicken burgers, wraps and salads for mains. The meals do not just consist of chicken though there are also some vegetarian choices including bean burgers. There is also a couple of options for beef so if you aren't a chicken fan you can still eat there. The burgers can come either in a pitta or in a bun which is your choice. You can also choose how hot the sauce is that they use. I am not a big fan of spicy food so I went for a plain chicken burger without sauce. My boyfriend went for a medium spicy wrap. The next choice they give you is whether you want it on its own or with 1 side or 2. I went for two sides and had chips and coleslaw. Other sides include rice, corn on the cob and garlic bread. They also have some posher sides that include sweet potato mash and salad. There is also a choice of extras that you can add to your meal if you wish to. They also had a few starters available including olives and pitta and houmous but we did not have one on this occasion.
Nando's also has a child's menu which includes a few of the choices from the adult menu and comes with a side and also a bottomless frozen yoghurt desert or ice lolly.
Once you have chosen what you want from the menu you then need to go up and order your food from the counter. The queue was fairly long when we went so my boyfriend had to wait a few minutes to get served. You also order your drinks at this point and they do a variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. They give you cups at the counter and then you go and help yourself to non alcoholic drinks. These are also refillable for free so this is a good point. Unfortunately when we went they had run out of glasses so we ended up with paper cups. You also have to pick up your own cutlery and sauces so if you want a waited service I wouldn't pick this restaurant.
The food only took about ten minutes after we ordered which I thought was good and was brought over to our table. The food was cooked reasonable well and tasted nice. I was glad I made the option to have my burger plain as I was very happy with the way it was. Although the waiting staff had a limited service to us they were helpful and friendly.
As you pay when you order your food you can just leave when you are finished.
The prices are quite good. A child's meal is 3.95 and an adult's meal is between 7 and 10 pounds if you are having 2 sides. This is quite good value for the amount of food you get.
Overall I found it an enjoyable experience. It is though in a way just a glorified version of KFC as it is a bit nicer and you get some restaurant service. I would recommend it if you are looking for a slightly nicer take away style meal but if you want a proper meal out then look elsewhere.
Summary: A nice place to have a meal
