Advantages: sauce, taste, affordable
Disadvantages: desserts, unclean cutlery and plates
Nandos is a portugese restaurant and has been in the UK since 1992. Its mainly serves peri peri spiced food.
Peri peri or piri piri is the African bird's eye chilli which is extremely spicy.
It is a self serve restaurant and the restaurant settings are very ethnic, and woody. The food is usually cooked right in front of you and on an average takes about 10 minutes for the food to be served. You can choose from a variety of table sauces and salad dressings.
Nandos is my favourite restaurant in the UK- they even beat many Indian restaurants' taste especially when it comes to spiciness. I think their sauces are not just spicy but very tangy so it doesn't hit you when you first taste it!
Their famous flame grilled chicken is served in four levels of spiciness- extra hot, hot, medium and lemon & herb/mango or lime. I usually go for the hot ones in Cardiff but I have noticed that it differs from place to place. When I tasted hot chicken in Manchester and east London restaurants they are a lot spicier than the ones you get in Cardiff.
Their menu isn't that elaborate and mainly consists of flame grilled chicken served with sides like chips, corn, spicy rice or coleslaw. Chicken is also served in the form of burgers in special Portuguese buns, in pitta bread and newly in wraps. I usually eat chicken on its own with sides- don't generally like to spoil the taste with bread over them. But never to say I have tried their burgers and believe me it is different to the usually ones. Their crusty bread with the spicy chicken gives the burger a totally different taste. Usually their burgers prices range from £5.90 to £9.30 with just one side. Their quarter chicken with 2 sides for £6.10 is good enough to fill your tummy!
The chicken roll which is served with a Portuguese roll is just divine! Try this- you would have never tasted livers like this before. It costs £5.15 and its every penny worth. My 2 and half year old son loves to eat it too- I think it's a great way of making kids eat livers- they are very rich in iron content.
Children meals are available too for just £3.95 for main course and ice cream.
One thing I hate about Nandos- their desserts- they are so bad. They are usually seen near the till which looks like as if it is in some coffee shop and their taste isn't great either. They do have bottomless frozen yogurt but I don't like it much. Their cutlery and plates seems to be quite dirty and this is common to almost all nandos- probably something to do with their washing style.
You can pick up a loyalty card from the restaurant which entitles you to some free food. You need to get it stamped every time your order is over £5.80. On your 3rd stamp you get a free quarter chicken, on your 6th a half chicken and your 10th stamp you get a totally free full chicken that's a value of £10.95
Their website is very cool, especially their menu style. They even have some recipes that you can try and even shop for their sauces.
I would strongly recommend you to try Nandos if you haven't tried it yet.
Summary: Nandos- the best restaurant
