Advantages: Great tasty chicken
Disadvantages: Slightly odd service system
Nandos is the home of legendary, Portuguese, flame-grilled PERi-PERi Chicken, its a large chain and there's a few restaurants throughout Leeds. This one at the Kirkstall road complex is by far my favourite. Firstly there's tonnes of free parking although it can get busy at peak times as its close to the Hollywood bowl and vue cinema.
When you approach the entrance music plays out. I guess it usually has a Latin feel to it and is an attempt to draw you inside. It quite charming and a little bit different none of the other resturants on the complex do this. I certainly don't need any encouragement to go in Nando Chicken is my favourite meal by a mile.
Once inside the restaurant you'll be greeted by your waiter/waitress, They always ask you if you have been to Nandos before which is fairly important as they operate an unusual system. It works like this the waiter takes you to your table and hands you the menu but then you go to the counter to order and pay for your meal then collect your own plates, cutlery and drinks then once your food is ready the waiter brings it out to you. Yes this may seem odd at first but the system does work and I personally don't mind it now I'm used to it. The restaurant has funky decoration and has a relaxing feel, kids are welcome and the place is family friendly with high chairs and kids menu.
So what's on the menu well lots of chicken really. you can choice to have chicken in various forms wings, breast 1/4 or 1/2 or whole chicken. The you select the level of spice starting from tasty lemon and herb right through to extra hot peri peri sauce. Then there's sides to choice from including salads, chips, rice and corn on the cob. Also there's a few veggie options. The chicken served in this branch is Halal. Personal I'm not a huge fan of spicy food so I always go for the very mild lemon and herb and get peri peri salt on my chips to liven them up without blowing my head off. Prices are reasonable I ordered half a chicken with two side and a bottom less drink and the same again for my husband and the bill was under £25 pounds and we were both stuffed.
This place is also great for a bit of celebrity spotting too on boxing day I saw Jennifer Metcalfe who plays mercedes in Hollyoaks (my bro pointed her out to me) I didn't have a clue who she was but staff seemed rather excited. Then this week as I was leaving I sure I saw the actor Kelvin Fletcher who plays Andy Sugden in Emmerdale outside on his mobile.
I highly recommend this place.
This review also appears on helphound under my same user name.
Summary: If its good enough for soap stars then its good enough for me.
