Advantages: consistently awesome
Disadvantages: Hardly traddtional Portuguese dinning
Nandos has for long time been the bench mark for dinning out experiences. It is the forerunner for affordable franchise dinning. I have visited restaurant outlets all over the country and as whole have found the dinning experience very enjoyable.
Nandos is branded as a Portuguese themed restaurant specializing in chicken dishes either served on or off the bone. In my opinion it sits in a new wave of dinning, somewhere between a fast food outlet and a traditional sit down restaurant.
In terms of Food it virtually exclusively caters for chicken lovers. I tend to find 1/4 1/2 chicken on the bone tops the fillet meals usually served in a pitta bread or a bun. Your chicken can be marinated to your liking and for me that means the hotter the better. Sides include the regular suspects Chips, Garlic Bread to the slightly more exotic Sweet potato mash and ratatouille. More recent additions include standard Mash potato and Peas with chili both of which are exquisite!
Portion size is generous and the service usually exceptional. On average food will arrive on your table within 10-20minutes of a order placed but its not uncommon for me to order pick up my cutlery, sit back down only to be ambushed by a waiter with my main course!
Not sure if this is a negative for a Portuguese themed restaurant its doesn't feel very Portuguese. With the exception of the Piri Piri marinate the rest of the menu is very Anglo/American. Having visited Portugal before i never once seen Mash potato on the menu.
Nandos main strength is its all round value for money, usually £10-12 per person with a drink and the consistency of the quality of the food.
My local branch have recently started doing loyalty vouchers and last week i earned my 1st full chicken on the house!! This only further reinforces my view that Nandos is the best franchised dinning experience on the high street
Summary: Great value for money, Great service, nearly great food
