Nando's- Chick chick chick chick chicken....

Advantages: Good value for money, nice food and atmosphere.
It was only about a year ago I jumped on the Nando's bandwagon, as it seemed everybody around me had tried (and highly rated) the place. Although I was completely blind to what kind of place it was, I know it specialised in one thing, chicken, and as I would rate chicken as one of my top 3 favorite foods ever, not much persuasion was needed to make me try it.
After a bit of post revision internet browsing, I found out that Nando's is a Portuguese place, specialising in what is described as 'Legendary Peri-Peri chicken'. You can purchase the chicken with one of five seasonings on, Mango and Lime, Lemon and Herb, Medium, Hot or Extra Hot (Do not go for this one under any circumstances!). Or, you can just have the chicken plain, and choose from a range of sauces which are completely free, and you can experiment and mix, as I did.
The service is fantastic, I have been four times now, and not once did I wait for my food for longer than half an hour. The tables are always clean and out of the two Nando's I have been to, the staff are incredibly friendly and the type that have the customer in mind. There is nice atmosphere in the place, and although the lighting is dim and the music could be classed as cheesy, I think that it's actually quite romantic.
It works like this: You are very likely to get a lively member staff greeting you at the door and finding you a table (If there is a bit of a wait, there is a seating area for those who are waiting for a table, you can purchase a drink whilst you wait, which I think is a very good way of keeping your customers happy). Then, after reading the menu and deciding what you are going to get, you walk up to the bar, which also serves wine and beer, order your food and pay, no faffing around with bills after your meal etc.. You then collect your sauces from a counter, along with knifes and forks, and sit your table and wait for your food. The food for us has come incredibly quickly and is always piping hot. For a full chicken and 4 regular sides, such as chips or garlic bread, you are looking just under the £20 mark, which I think is really good value for money. Like I said, you can order your chicken plain, or seasoned, but from previous experience of having the Medium seasoned chicken, I would NOT recommend getting the hot of extra hot, I have a taste for spice, and the seasoning is REALLY SPICY. All the meat is Halal, and although this does not affect me personally, I think it is good that those who will only Halal are taken into consideration. Personally, I prefer to coat my chicken in the free sauces they offer, they really are nice and it means you can experiment with a few different sauces, to see which you like best. The staff pop over during your meal to ask if you would like any condiments that are not on the counter with their speciality sauces (Mayo, Ketchup etc) and to check if your meal is okay, which I think is very nice. You can also buy bottomless soft drinks for under £3 there, which I would recommend, as you get a LOT of food for your money, and if you should choose to try the hot sauces, you will definitely need an ice cold drink! There is a wide range of both alcoholic and non- alcoholic beverages, and they are not badly priced. Neither are the starters or puddings (I have only tried the chocolate cake, but it was the most sickly and heavenly thing I have ever tried). When we had finished our meal, the staff came and took our plates and asked if everything was okay for us, again, and then said Goodbye and Thank You whilst we went out of the door.
The tables are always clean as are the toilets and floor. You can also see your food been cooked, again, it is very clean around the area. Nando's is full of different types of people, those of different ethnicities, couples, families with children, friends catching up for a drink etc.. You do not feel out of your comfort zone whoever you may be.
Although some have described this as an upmarket fast-food place, I would disagree and say it is a restaurant which is becoming more and more reputable. Of course, you have to be a lover of chicken to visit, although they do have a vegetarian option. It is good for money and the food is really nice, and a place I will visit again and again unless given a reason not to. A thumbs up for Nando's.
Summary: A place for everyone.
