This Chinese restaurant has been established for at least 20 years. It is situated in the tourist area of uphill Lincoln next to a Roman Arch which was the gateway to the city of Lindum Colonia, hence the name Newport Arch Chinese Restaurant. As you enter there is a small takeaway in the foyer done very discreetly. Then you take the main door into the restuarant where you find a small bar on the left handside and the tables all set out on the right hand side. There is a wide choice of seating, e.g. you can sit in the window with curtain open or closed, there are varying sized tables in the centre and tables of 4 on the far side. Got the picture. The walls are adorned with Chinese silk prints all very attractive and so cleverly done. They do a lunchtime and early evening special which is very good value. 6pounds 99p for a 4course meal. Starters are sweetcorn and chicken soup or a fruit juice. Main menu is extensive with chop suey, sweet and sour, curries and chow mein, all served with chips or rice. They come with a hot plate to keep your dishes warm. Sweet is either ice-cream or banana fritter and sometimes a gateau. Coffee is included in the price. There is a wide variety of wines to choose from at a reasonable price. Later on in the evening is the A La Carte menu with such a good choice. Best to book early for weekends. The restaurant was orginally an old co-op store and it has made a delightful place to eat. I must say also the staff are very pleasant and always remember you if youre a regular.
