“ Dean Street, Newcastle. „
Amongst the many excellent eating places in Newcastle is No 18 on Dean Street. With a two course lunch plus a glass of red or white wine costong £4.95, it is excellent value. There is usually a choice of three for starters and main course and they always include one vegetarian, one fish and one meat dish. On a recent visit there was a wild mushroom soup served with french bread which was a meal in itself. A typical main course, sauteed spicy chiken on a mixed salad with onion and creole dressing. Sweets are extra and coffee costs £3.00 which is expensive for Newcastle and more than half the price of lunch. If you want to keep the price down then it is best to be avoided. The gass of wine is not the best in the world but is is drinkable, but then for £4.95 who's complaining?. A similar menu for the evening costs £11.95 and for this there is more choice but the portions stay the same, i.e plenty. The restaurant itself is only small but there is plenty of room between the tables giving it a spacious feel. I eat here often and find that I don't need a meal in the evening after dining here.
