Our last visit to the Olive Grove was a disapointment. The restaurant was chilly, the service was slow, my meal was luke warm, and the portions were smaller. Hopefuly it was just a one off, as we've always had a good time on previous occasions.
Absolutely appalling staff attitude towards customers - especially the floor manager. One of our party had the seafood risotto and the muscles had not been cleaned out properly so they left the food. The waitress took it back to the kitchen and they apologised - when the bill came they had still charged us for the meal so we asked then to take it off and the manager spoke extremely rudely towards us and was adamant she was right and told us we were not welcome to eat there again. We DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone to eat here - not after the service we received.
The Olive Grove 12 Best Lane Canterbury Cuisine - Italian. I cannot believe that not a single restaurant has been reviewed in Canterbury when there are so many of them! Well, as I lived there for a little while, I have decided to provide a couple of reviews of two of the restaurants I have visited most recently.. I hope that these are helpful to you. An initial comment that I wish to make is, I am getting really fed up with visiting the same old 'chain restaurants' such as Pizza Express, Pizza Hut, Bella Pasta etc. with absolutely no character and box-standard food. I, myself, like to try something unique, a restaurant with character and class and if that is what you are looking for, then the Olive Grove is for you. Very unique setting, overlooking a pretty street in Canterbury, very nicely laid out, very clean, very classy, very civilised if not, somewhat busy! The waiter was Italian himself and very professional. However, as I recall, he was the only one serving customers - perhaps there were usually other members of staff and they were on holiday/or off sick? Who knows? The poor guy looked completely rushed off his feet so it did take him a little while to come over to our table and take our order. When he did finally come over to take our order, we ordered the following:- Garlic mushrooms Spicy chicken wings Ham and pineapple pizza Vegetarian pizza Two hot chocolates. The hot chocolates came pretty much straight away, and I believe that it was the same waiter that had to prepare it, as well as serve it. But when it arrived, mmmmm, delicious, creamy hot chocolate. Not too sweet like some hot cholocate drinks can be. It tasted like a delicious belgian chocolate hot chocolate drink - definitely recommended! We did, however, have to wait a long while for our starters of garlic mushrooms and spicy chicken wings to arrive. Perhaps, 25 minutes or s
o - but these starters were really worth waiting for.... The chicken wings had a lovely flavour to them - not too dry, not too greasy. The marinade that they used was absolutely gorgeous - nothing like any of these pre-made marinades that can be purchased from a supermarket. This marinade was home made. I don't particularly like mushrooms but apparently these mushrooms were prepared to the highest standard too. After 10 minutes, the starters were gone! We had to wait about another half an hour for our pizzas which was a bit annoying, however, yet again, they were definitely worth the wait. These pizzas were hand prepared from scratch. Even the dough was handmade and there was no comparison between the dough on this pizza to a dough on a pizza from a chain resturant say, Pizza Hut. I cannot use words to describe these pizzas. The chef used the perfect combination of cheeses, and unlike some pizzas the chef used the correct balance of the base sauce and the toppings. I cannot remember exactly how much the meal did cost but it wasn't anymore than somewhere like Pizza Hut. I think it was around £20. But I would have paid more than £20 for the meal we had it was that good. Certainly recommended!
