Advantages: Absolute bargain, Speedy service, Good quality spuds
Disadvantages: Quite cold, Plastic cutlery
Having been out of the student game for just over a year, I had forgotten the thrill of finding a real life bargain. In the gallery above Covent Garden market is a food court with a variety of counters selling hot food from all around the world. I must say that none of it looks particularly appealing but persevere and soon you will reach Iky's. Right at the end is a counter selling all manner of overpriced junk food but ignore that because you can buy a huge jacket potato with topping for 99p! It doesn't stop there my friends. Along with this excellent deal comes a free cup of tea or coffee - what more could one wish for? Speaking as someone who has thrown baked beans across the room on a number of occasions when trying to eating an under-cooked jacket off a paper plate I can safely say that these are quality spuds and are served up in a real china dish. Formerly nicknamed the pigeon cafe, until its recent refurbishment, the current clientele seem to be an eclectic mix of students, market stall holders and off-duty policemen. It can get crowded at lunchtime so be sure to go an hour either side so you can watch the buzz of the market without worrying about hogging a table. The down side of this place is that it can get quite cold in the winter and the cutlery is plastic but for 99p I can't really complain.

- 08/01/02 sorry for the low rating but the opinion was just too short and specialised for me. Do they only sell spuds for example? What toppings can you get for 99p etc. |
