      A nice place to go to have a different breakfast

      When my sister moved away to Nottingham to start her law degree we made plans to go and visit her both for a night out but also with my son as he would miss his auntie moving away as well. Early in November 2012 my son and I took the train to Nottingham to see her and on the Sunday before we had to go and get the train to return we went to Pancakes and more in the Victoria shopping centre for a brunch type meal. This is my review of the establishment.

      ==Where is it?==

      Pancakes and more are situated in the Victoria shopping centre in Nottingham and is on the ground floor there. I am sure there are those "where am i?" posters inside the shopping centre but we entered the centre across the road from PC World and it was literally just inside the first doors there so we didn't have far to walk at all.

      ==What is it?==

      Pancakes and more is actually a place which was started by the happy egg company who want and make the best conditions for their hens and as such say they produce the best quality eggs.

      The pancakes and more venues is what I would call a café really but the difference is that they focus purely on egg related dishes. Obviously the name gives it away that they do pancakes but they also do quiches and omelettes too as well as serving drinks too.

      I think this place is actually best suited for a breakfast or brunch type meal personally and it makes a nice change to actually head out for this kind of meal as it is normally one that we would have at home and even then would have something boring like cereal or toast!

      ==My experience==

      Walking in to the café I thought it was nice enough. We visited at around 11.30am on a Sunday morning and whilst there were people in there eating there were plenty of tables free as well. There is a large menu behind the counter detailing what you can have and their prices and you will find that there are both sweet and savoury options available to buy. The restaurant looked clean and staff were clearing tables as and when people left.

      I have to say I was a little confused about the ordering process in the café and I was glad that my sister was with me as she had been before and was able to direct me as to what to do. Basically you queue up at the counter and then choose what you want to order and place an order at the till. Here you pay for your food and then are given a chicken with a number on to place on your table so that the waiting staff can find you and give you the right order. Cold drinks are available in the fridge near the counter and you can choose to buy these or a hot drink when you place your order.

      We all ended up ordering the same meal when we went to the café and all chose pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup. I ordered a child portion for my son and from memory I think it cost me around eight or nine pounds for the two plates of pancakes which I did think was a little expensive initially as I hadn't ordered any drinks. I have to say I was very tempted by the strawberry and cream pancake which I believe was the special when we visited as it looked gorgeous but I felt as though I should go with something savoury really!

      We went and chose a table and we didn't have long to wait before our pancakes arrived but I noted there was a small children's area with colouring things and a few toys which is quite handy I feel if you do have small children. My son wasn't really interested in going over to the area but I did see some children making use of the toys whilst their parents ate.

      When the plates arrived I realised why I had paid almost ten pounds for the order as the plates were huge! Even my son had a good plate full of American style pancakes and it was all plated up to look nice so there was a pancake then a couple of rashers of crispy, thin bacon, then another pancake and so on. There were three large pancakes on my plate and they were quite thick too. All the plates were literally drowning in maple syrup and this was a little off putting really as towards the end of the meal it became too much and quite sickly. My sister said the last times she has been there wasn't that much syrup on the meals so perhaps it was a one off.

      We all enjoyed the American style pancakes and my son adored the crispy bacon with his. I am not a fan of streaky bacon at all and whilst this was done to be crispy it was still quite streaky and so my son ate most of mine from my plate along with his pancakes! He too was put off in the end by the amount of maple syrup used but we all had a good go at our meals and felt full when we stopped eating as well.

      There was a toilet in the café but this was only accessible by a key which I presume is to stop people just walking in to use the toilet. We didn't make use of the toilet as nobody needed to go but it seemed silly to me to have one toilet accessible only by a key from a member of staff when there are tables to hold a good amount of people in there.

      ==Overall==

      I would certainly go back to pancakes and more should I visit my sister again in Nottingham. I think I would opt to try one of the sweet options next time or perhaps even the traditional English pancakes with sugar and lemon! It is a nice option for something a bit different for your breakfast or lunch and although the prices seem a little high in comparison to places like McDonalds breakfast menu I do think you get a lot for your money here.

      Thank you for reading my review!
