      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Will definitely be going back!

      My fiancé and I have often considered going into Patcharee to eat whenever we go into Kingston, as they have a lunchtime offer between 12noon - 3pm. We finally ate in there recently as we met up with 2 of his friends and as we met them at the train station; it was only a short walk away.

      Location
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      The restaurant is located around the corner from Kingston Railway Station and you have to walk underneath the railway bridge and towards the part of town that looks a bit run down and dodgy. Although the location of the restaurant isn't that appealing, it is convenient as it is near The Rotunda, which houses an Odeon cinema, bowling alley and various bars and restaurants.
      Décor
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      They have made a real effort with the furnishings and everything seems extremely elegant but not overly pretentious. The tables aren't too squashed together, but we all thought that the carved wooden chairs were extremely heavy and difficult to move around and that comment comes from 3 strapping blokes as well as me being a petite Chinese girl!

      Atmosphere
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      We dined at about 1pm lunchtime on a bank holiday and it wasn't too busy, but there was a nice ambience from the chatter coming from diners spread out within the restaurant. I'd imagine that coming here in the evening would be an equally enjoyable experience and possibly quite romantic!
      The Food
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      As I mentioned before, they do a lunchtime offer. This consists of 2 courses for £6.95, so you choose a Starter and a Main Course, or you can just have a Main Course for £5.95. Well we weren't going to pass up getting a Starter for £1 extra, especially when the choices include Chicken Satay and Prawn Toast.

      My fiancé and I both chose the Chicken Satay and thought it was quite nice. You get a couple of skewers with thin pieces of chicken, so it's a fairly small portion, but the chicken was very soft and tender. It comes with a peanut sauce, which is quite watery and doesn't pack much of a punch when it comes to flavour, so even though it was nice I probably wouldn't order this next time. I imagine (or would hope!) that the portion would be much bigger if you were ordering it from the al la carte menu as it is normally £5.25.

      The Main Course choices included Pad Thai, curry, a noodle dish and I think a rice dish. I had the noodle dish, which had beef, egg, chilli, and basil leaves. It was very tasty and it hit the spot in terms of portion size for lunch. My fiancé had a beef curry, which was creamy and not too hot. It came with a good portion of rice, which was perfectly cooked. One of his friends had the Pad Thai, which looked very good garnished with the peanuts and sugar on the side of the dish so you can flavour it to your liking. I've never had a decent Pad Thai in a restaurant, but I would be tempted to order this if we came here again.

      The drinks weren't too expensive, with soft drinks at £1.50 each and beers at £3. They offer a wide selection of wine, spirits, liqueurs, plus tea and coffee.

      The normal al la carte menu is quite extensive and they also offer dinnertime set menus. All these can be viewed on their website, but unfortunately they don't have the lunchtime set menu on there.

      Staff and service
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      I thought the staff and the service was wonderful. We were seated straight away and promptly offered drinks, which came very quickly. The food arrived very quickly too and it was nice and hot and tasted freshly cooked. They cleared the dishes away promptly, but they did not make us feel rushed.
      Conclusion
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      I thought the food and service were very good and I would definitely return for another meal. There are lots of places to eat in Kingston, but I think Patcharee offers great food at a very reasonable price and I would rather eat here during my shopping-break than at one of the many fast food joints!
