Advantages: friendly 'atmos', splendid rockcakes
Disadvantages: none
You could easily miss this outdoor teahouse,if you do you are missing out. Update at end of this opinion . The Pavilion Gardens Cafe is an all time favorite of mine,it is situated in The Royal Pavilion Gardens and down the opposite end of the Royal Pavilion. It started out as a tea Kiosk ajoining the Pavilion in 1941 the year I was born ,I started having my tea there in the 80s and it is the first place I visit when I reach Brighton . There is something about having a cup of coffee or tea in the open, and listening to music ,in the form of buskers to proffesional bands that play on Sunday afternoons . This year they have many events planned starting as it did with the Brighton Festival where the children start their fancy dress parade .They have a fun day coming up for all the family and a professional guitarist playing some days.It is a very fun place to be . I have just had my first visit 2002,its like coming home for me I love the setting of this outdoor cafe, how many cafes can boast being in the same grounds of a former palace, the former residence of the Prince Regent. The atmosphere is so relaxing on the patio of this spendid outdoor cafe, there is always a musician to be heard while you have tea. They are providing mugs of tea this year, with of course the famous rock cakes snacks ,nice sandwhiches to order, and light lunches ,ice creams etc. A printed photograph can now be purchased of the cafe in the 40s,very nostalgic. I will list some of the venues that will be taking place this year musicians ,and bands ,the Brighton Festival will be taking place in May,and will be a busy time for the Pavilion Gardens cafe ....watch this space... They now have their Homepage up so you can see these events with dates listed. The Pavilion Gardens cafe is also run by the Sewell family ,who have kept this amenity going for 60 years this year 2001. They are a
nice team along with other staff,I worked for them on one of their fun days years ago ,and boy do they work hard. They are are genuinely friendly with their customers ,and remembered me after there was a break for awhile in my visits. They serve light refreshments ,sandwiches, cakes etc, their famous rockcakes and ice creams etc. And you cant market the unique atmospere that is around this teahouse .It is unique ,and different, on different days, depending on who is there .Or who is performing . The Pavilion lawns are there also with deck chairs ,sometimes pop music or traditional is played ,I have even seentraditional dancers perform ,with breathtaking music. Visit their new homepage at www.pavilioncafe.cjb.net update Brighton Festival in the pavilion grounds where this cafe is also situated . The May Festival is now underway ,and is a very exciting event, some events will take place near The Pavilion cafe . There are going to be Family fun days starting May 4th ,also May 5th,6th,9th,10th,11th12th14th,15th. This will consist of Elaborate bouncy Castle, with inflatable tunnels and rooms, visit to these costs 4 pounds ...these are on the Royal Pavilion Lawns open:12 noon til 6pm. The Pavilion gardens tea room is close by and provides refreshments all day long. There will be other entertainments coming up,including visits from some of the 200 street performers that will be in this festival,I have seen them in the past and they are top quality. I will put some more about the Festival on my Brighton opinion soon. The Argus has printed a supplement.
