Advantages: Good menu choice, good kids menu, friendly staff, restuarants all of the country
Disadvantages: service a bit slow in some of the restuarants
Pizza Express is a great, fairly cheap restaurant that will suit all kinds of people. They are very children friendly - high chairs and special children's menu and there are always lots of children in there during the day or late afternoon so you would never feel like your child was out of place by taking them there.
The menu is quite extensive - pizza's obviously but quite a lot of pasta dishes and some lovely salad's too plus quite a few vegetarian options.
My favourite meals are the Pollo Verdure salad - warm torn chicken with chargrilled vegetables on rocket and spinich with a honey and mustard dressing. Not for those on a diet even though its a salad becuase of the dressing and the fact it comes with 4 doughsticks too but lovely nonetheless!
I either have that or a pizza called Pollo ad astra which is torn chicken breast and peppadew sweet peppers, mixed with cajun spices, garlic and red onions. Delicious and quite spicy!
The Children's menu has a good deal where you can get 3 courses for £5.95. This has a starter of doughballs (but it comes with butter rather than garlic butter!) , a small (well tiny i would say!) green salad of cucumber, lettuce and peppers, and then choices of fairly plainish pizza and pasta dishes for main course - pizza comes about size of small side plate and then dessert - choice of ice cream or icecream sundae type things. Children will love have 3 courses but its all in very tiny portions so manageable , but it feels like nicer quality food as it is essentially very tiny portions of the adult menu rather than the usual chicken nuggets and chip type kids menu. Ok nothing in pizza express is particularly healthy - doughballs followed by pizza and ice cream is not particularly balanced but for a treat its a great menu - and cheap!
Pizza Express often have deals at the moment for 2 for 1 or meal for £10 etc it is well worth using these - looking on their website or www.moneysavingexpert.com. THere is always some kind of voucher around these days so i haven't paid full price in pizza express for ages! My mum and I went a couple of months ago with a 2 for 1 from the paper and just went there for dinner instead of one of us cooking - so not for the experience of a meal out - consequently had 1 pizza and 1 salad and a jug of tap water between us for about £7 or £8 ! The staff were still very friendly and didn't seem to mind that we hadn't spent a fortune on drinks which is obviously how they make their money when they have the 2 for 1 offers. They have more than made their money from us though as I go regularly now with their offers and just becuase it is a nice convenient place to go for lunch or dinner, with friends who have kids or groups of girlfriends it just is suitable for anyone who wants to go there really, plus no matter which one you go to you pretty much know what you are getting. I haven't really been to a bad Pizza Express though some of the London ones could speed up their service a little bit.
