Express does not usually mean good (Pizza Express)

As a pizza lover I have been visiting pizza express for many years now. In this time I have gone to many different branches (including but not limited to preston, lytham, manchester, several in london, edinburgh etc) and have eaten many of the menu items, as such I feel confident to review pizza express on the whole and not just a particular restaurant or meal.

Pizza express is open lunchtime through to evening time and for those that hadnt guessed yet, it is a restaurant specialising in pizza. Not to say that there is only pizza available, there are also pasta and salad dishes but the pizza is the real reason to go. Pricewise pizza express has to come as reasonable, pizza's are in the region of £6- £12 and desserts and starters are in the region of £3-£5 .

On average the service in Pizza express is good, I would like to say it was better than that (which it more often than not is), but on a few occasions you can be left waiting for food. The staff are always helpfull and friendly and I think the delays in food time come from cooking all the pizza's fresh from scratch.

There is a good range of starters available such as rustica tomatoes, garlic dough balls, bruschetta and salad. The starters usually arrive just a couple of minutes after they are ordered and never fail to get my mouth watering, ready for my main. The only problem I have ever had with the starters was which ones to choose as they are all so tastey!

For the main course I would reccommend the pizza, with the name as it is it has to be done. The bases are much thinner than those at other chain pizza stores such as pizza hut and can be made even thinner as a romana base (however a thinner pizza also means a bigger pizza). There is a huge choice of pizza including pizza with a well of salad at the centre. The staff at all the restaurant have always been happy to explain what ingrediants may be included in the pizza for people with allergies and have always been happy to add and remove any ingrediants we choose.

The sauce tastes wonderfully clean and tangy and is perfect on the thin bases also, they never skimp on ingrediants. The cooking area is usually located inside the eating area so that you can watch your pizza being prepared fresh and also allows the wonderful aromas easy acess to the restaurant.

The restuarants always have a nice atmosphere in the evening they are often bustling hives of activity whereas in the daytime they are somewhat more relaxed eateries. The smell of the place is simply delightfull and will not fail to make even the least hungry person want a pizza. The music is generally quite easy listening jazz, with some restaurants offering live jazz nights which never fail to impress.

There are many ways to get vouchers and discounts for pizza express and it is always worth doing a quick google search to see which is the best offer for you.

I have once had a problem with pizza express, one of our parties meal had not arrived 10 minutes after the rest and so we informed the staff. Turned out that the order had been forgotten/lost. The staff were terribly apologetic and provided us with the missing pizza very quickly and at no charge plus a discount for the group. Although it was not an ideal situation I was still impressed with the way in which the problem was handled.

Overall I would reccomend pizza express wholeheartedly and to anyone!
