When I went on my hen do in Cardiff I was looking at a restaurant that we could all go to comfortably, the price was reasonable and we would all find something we liked on the menu. Pizza places always come to mind as it is a firm favourite with my friends so I found pizza express. What I found was a fabulous restaurant which is completely yummy and I would definitely go to again soon. Loved it and here is why.

Pizza express is a chain of restaurants and I am usually dubious about chains as what I have found sometimes is that the food is great but not very fresh. With pizza express though it is lovely and the food is made fresh on the premises there.

We all went to the pizza express in Cardiff Bay and walking up to it you have the pizza express logo which is blue and white and circular. When you walk into a pizza express it was very chic which is great. The place was decorated very minimalistic and had a very clean decor which was very nice and actually quite unexpected. I thought it would be everybody close together but all of the tables had enough space and there was plenty of space to walk around.

Then there were nice plants everywhere and you could see the kitchens and the bar around the edges of the room which was good as I like being able to see what is going on around me especially when in a restaurant. So the Cardiff Bay pizza express so far was great and immediately made me feel like I had made the right choice to come here.

The choice on the menu at pizza express is great. You obviously have the choice of having pizza but they have really nice ones such as the Veneziana which has pine nuts, sultanas, onions and olives. My friend had this one to try And it was delicious. I went for the American which was pepperoni and I never have meat when I am out in restaurants but it was delicious. You can have Margharita if you like and then add toppings of your choice.

Apart from pizza you can have salads which one of my friends had the chicken Caesar salad which looked nice and was definitely substantial as a meal. Then there is most peoples favourite lasagne and cannelloni. What I like is that there is a good choice for meat eaters and vegetarians which is nice to see in a place.

Ok so the food you can tell is very fresh and cooked there straight away. My pizza had the softest dough but then the edges were nice and crispy but not overdone. The actual pizza was so soft and succulent and every one of my friends agreed. I was hungry and didn't want to overdo it as I was having a pudding but I did manage to eat all of my pizza.

The main meals cost around £6 - 9 which is about what is expected. You can even choose to have your pizzas on a stretched base which makes them thinner but bigger so more topping. I had one friend that did this and she loved it. The main courses are big so you will not be disappointed with portion size at all.

The puddings are lovely and as this is the part of the meal I look forward to the most I had high expectations. You can choose from strudel which is what I had but I'm not sure if they do it anymore, tiramisu, chocolate fudge cake and then the yummy profiteroles. The puddings are around £4 each.

We found them to be so yummy and there is even a small selection of smaller desserts if you can't manager a big one. They are all yummy though and decent sizes so you feel like you are getting your moneys worth.

Ok so drinks wise they have a great selection of soft drinks and hot drinks if that's what you fancy. We had the house wine though which was about £4 a glass. You can also get beers but we didn't have any and I do think they have spirits too if that's what you fancy.

The last thing I have to tell you about is the staff. Now this could have been just this pizza express but the staff were amazing. Our waiter (Gideon if anybody is reading who knows him) was fantastic and really made our night. He put up with our lively attitude and faced 12 girls very well indeed. He answered all of our questions and generally made us feel at home there and was brilliant! We even met his boss who was great so the staff were amazing.

One more thing is that pizza express accept Tesco vouchers so you can pay for your food. We did this and it was fab.

In conclusion I think pizza express is amazing and I would definitely recommend to everybody and would go there again. The place looked amazing, was clean and had a very friendly atmosphere. The food was absolutely yummy and we all felt very pleasantly full after eating there. I think the prices are right for what you get and the quality of everything so I am going to go there again. A great restaurant!
