Reliable quality, but can get boring (Pizza Express)

Pizza Express does a great line in elegant good quality dining for a reasonable cost. On the same budget as a trip to Pizza Hut or some other American stylee cheese-fest, you can enjoy proper Italian style pizzas, great salads, pasta, and very yummy deserts. Pizzas are around £5 to £7 each, and deserts somewhere about £3. Drinks can add a fair bit to the bill, but for this is one of the few chain restaurants that knows that 'a jug of tap water please' means. The pizzas are prepared to order, so in addition to their range of combinations you can always make your own. This may well be necessary, as the menu is fairly restricted, and doesn't really change. In all the branches I've been to service has been prompt and helpful, weather dealing with a fairly large group, or just two people getting salad and coffee. The original branch in Soho, London, also houses a basement Jazz club, and a few other branches also have regular performances, which I gather are well though off - I've never tried one myself.

This is a good place to go when you don't want to spend a fortune but want to be somewhere fairly nice - great for a girlie night out, when you don't want to food to be the focus of the whole evening, just a nice counterpoint.
