Advantages: Universal, moderately good prices, ok decor.

Disadvantages: Terrible service at my local one, change in prices mean salad bar no longer worth it

When I was younger Pizza Hut was the place to go, and was good value for money.

Though the decor is reasonable and continues to improve, along with options such as a range of sauces and better cutlery, there are far more dsiadvantages than there used to be, particularly in terms of price and options on one level.

Pizza Hut is known for its TV advertising showing its varieties of the traditional pizza. For example, the 'Four for all' consists of a large square pizza with breakable slices consisting of four different toppings. They have recently brought out a pizza that has a crust stuffed with both cheese and pepperoni. Though these ideas are interesting, they are only available in large and is marketed more towards the family. As I often go out to eat with just one other person or a fussy eater, I have never been able to take advantage of these options.

I usually get an individual pan pizza - my favourite is the vegetalbe supreme. Though the range of pizzas in themselves are more limited than your average pizza restaurant or take away (see pizzahut.co.uk for the current menu), there is the option to 'create your own'.

The service I receive on a regular basis from my local in Castle Marina Nottingham is usually poor. We wait 5 minutes at least to even be seated, due to a problem of understaffing rather than anything else. Similarly, we have waited 20 minutes to even make an order for collection at the collection/delivery part of the restaurant. On the one occasion where the staff paid any attention to us, they were very rude. There is one guy who is a decent waiter and makes an effort to take our orders and bring food, so maybe it's a problem with the staff themselves, I'm not sure.

In terms of price, it's a lot less reasonable than it was. Though the ice cream factory option (unlimited bowls for £2.49 for adults) is still good value, the salad bar has now changed. Instead of unlimited bowls/plates, it's now £3.49 for just one visit, which in my mind is pretty ridiculous for what you get (a small range of cheap looking and tasting salad). In my mind this stops me from reaching my five a day with main meals because it's just not worth the money any more, and unfortunately detracts from my experience and meal there. However, unlimited fizzy drinks continue to be popular and are a definite advantage for poor students!

My local Pizza Hut does a Monday to Friday lunch buffet between certain times, where you pay a fixed amount to eat as much as you like. However, the staff live up to their terrible reputation and there is nowhere near enough pizza cooked to reach the demand. They also cook a lot of meat based pizzas which I'm not keen on.

So a bit hit and miss really. With better customer service it would improve a lot.

Summary: Only go when the craving strikes
