Advantages: The pizza's are good

Disadvantages: The pasta isn't

Pizza Hut began its life in 1958 in Texas. Since then it has grown and globalised to become one of the leading fast food eateries for families and kids alike. With its head office based in Addison, Texas, the brand can now be found in 3 capacities. There are restaurants on every high street and retail park, a delivery service and a take away service in most of the branches. Whilst their menu is rather standard, they do offer a selection of pizza's, hot finger nibbles, pasta ranges and salad's.

Pizza Hut is widely known for its eye catching advertising campaigns. With their finger firmly in the family pie, and perhaps not dis-similar to MacDonalds, the brand engages itself to many franchises that are aimed at kids. They can often be found promoting the latest summer blockbusters, and indeed have had their hand in the Batman, Back To The Future and TMNT film deals. The chain has also promoted and sponsored many other big brands such as Pepsi, Galaxy and a number of sporting events.

The first thing to note about Pizza Hut is the inexpensive menu. They offer a dining menu which is affordable and offers 4 sizes in pizza's. There are also a newly introduced range of pasta's, although the 'Pasta Hut' logo has been ditched after British polls online decided that they much preferred the chain in its original guise. They cater well for kids, with such things a chicken wings and ice-creams on the menu. However, the only thing that adults will really enjoy from the menu is the selection of pizza's.

There is also a buffet lunch in most branches which is widely promoted on the high street with the use of bored out of work sandwich boards. Not to miss a trick, the buffet can usually be found at around £6.50, which for the value of the pizza's at least is no mean feat. However, their salad bar is not the most alluring sight I've ever seen, and the pasta often has the taste of something you'd throw together with your fridge left overs.

The restaurant itself is attractive enough, decked in enough colours to attract the kids, but also provide a pleasant atmosphere for adults. The noise can be overbearing if you're idea of dining out is something a little quieter and more sophisticated. The staff are your typical teenage fast food fodder, prompt enough in service, but hardly silver service waiters in the making.

Further to the buffet lunch, and a selection of affordable dishes, Pizza Hut also have a happy hour. With a dish of your choice, a drink and a portion of Garlic Bread at a price of £4, its a great option for anybody looking for a quick lunchtime fix or an afternoon out with the kids. Happy Hour runs from 3pm - 6pm on all weekdays. They even go so far as to give a discount on that already more than reasonable price for families and couples.

My only qualm with Pizza Hut is that some of its quality ocassionally falls short. I've already mentioned the rather questionable attempts at pasta. The salad bar is also a little short on quality. The pizza's though are excellent, and come in various types of base. There are also various toppings that make for quite an interesting choice. My personal favourite is pepperoni.

So for an affordable price, you and your family can enjoy the selection of pizza's, the dips, garlic bread, chicken nibbles and a selection of ice-creams to please the kid in all of us. Just avoid the crispy lettuce and even crispier pasta.

Summary: I would take this over Domino's anyday

I have to disagree on the old salad; I love it especially the bacon bits and croutons. I am also a sucker for the all you can eat ice cream. I have tiny bit of ice cream and the rest of the bowl gets filled with sweets!

I used to love the pizzas here. I also agree with you on the pasta - it oftens makes me think its a bit like BK or McDonalds - microwaved and pre-delivered.
