Advantages: Nice food, nice place, fairly good choice, reasonable prices
Disadvantages: Bad service
I went to Pizza Hut on Friday night with 3 friends. I was surprised when I walked in as we had to queue by the door to be given a table like in posh restaurants. I'd always thought Pizza Hut had more of a McDonalds style set-up where you just go order at a counter from a menu, but it's much nicer than that.
The place is done out very nicely, it looks quite posh with a nice red and brown colour theme and paintings on the walls. There are a choice of seating arrangements, with normal tables for 2 and 4 people, or tables with comfier chairs and sofas. we just got a normal 4 seater table, and there was plenty of room.
Once we were seated and had had a chance to look at our menu, our waitress came and introduced herself and took our order, and said if we needed anything don't hesitate to ask. She seemed very nice and polite and at that point I thought the service would be excellent.
There isn't a great deal of choice on the menu, I'd expected there to be more choice of pizzas but there were only about 8 to choose from, though you can choose what kind of base you want. As well as pizza they do a small range of starters, a range of pastas and salads for anyone who doesn't want pizza. They have a salad bar where you can go and fill your own bowl for a set price, so you can get as much as you want.
We ordered a plate of nachos to share as our starter, and each ordered a j2o as our drinks, and these were served really quickly. For our mains we ordered a large share pizza for 2 of us, and 2 of us chose individual pizzas. These arrived about 15 minutes after ordering, which was not too bad.
The nachos we had as our starter were lovely, but they could have done with more cheese to go with them, it seemed to have been used very sparingly. I had a chicken supreme pizza, but I was quite disappointed with it as it didn't seem to have any chicken on it! I did eventually find one piece of chicken on it, but I really don't think they could call that a chicken supreme! Other than that it was very nice, it tasted lovely even though there was no chicken. My friends were happy with their choices, and the share pizza was a very good size, in fact they didn't manage to finish it between the 2 of them, so it was a very generous portion size.
When we'd finished our pizzas the waitress came back to take our dessert orders. We chose a hot cookie dough to share between 2 of us, and one friend chose profiteroles. We also ordered a hot drink each. This is when the service began to go downhill. We waited 15 minutes for 3 lattes, which were cold when they arrived, then we had to wait 10 minutes for the waitress to reappear so that we could ask for them to be re-heated. There were no other members of staff around at all to ask.
Then after we'd asked for the lattes re-heated, several staff members came from the kitchen and they all seemed more interested in having a little gathering and making their own drinks than serving customers! We waited 10 minutes before going and asking about the lattes, and my hot chocolate and our puddings, which had yet to appear. One member of staff who had actually already finished his shift then brought our re-heated lattes and my hot chocolate over, and was very apologetic, whilst the rest of the staff who were still on shift stood around chatting. I couldn't believe it! He then brought our profiteroles and said the cookie dough was just going through the oven, before going home.
Our cookie dough took about another 10 minutes to arrive, and the waitress at this point seemed very annoyed with us. My friend asked her for some more sugar for her drink and she went off in a huff, came back and threw them on the table without saying a word.
The desserts were very nice, though the portion sizes were quite small, especially on the 'to share' cookie dough, and we all really enjoyed the drinks. My hot chocolate was the best I think I've had in any restaurant.
The bill for 4 of us, including starter, main and 2 drinks each, came to just under £55, which I thought was very reasonable, and the food and drink was worth what we paid for it I thought. But the service on this occasion was not great, and I would expect more at that price. We decided against leaving a tip on this occasion, but we would eat there again as the food was very enjoyable.
Summary: I would go again, but would hope for better service next time!
