Advantages: Cheap and teenagers like it

Disadvantages: Long wait, service not always brilliant

Where can you go to eat that suits teenage granddaughters and their grandmothers and will not break the bank? Pizza Hut of course.

Teenagers are a funny lot especially when they are girls. They won't go just anywhere with their grandmothers to eat, just in case their friends see them. It is alright to be seen in Pizza Hut even with your grandmother, so long as she is on her best behaviour, and is paying.

Don't complain when the staff seem to be ignoring you as they seat the three people who came in after you. Keep you cool when the table you sit at has no cutlery. Don't dash to the buffet island as you see the hungry hordes descending and the last piece of spicy chicken pizza disappear.

The staff will seat you and come back to take your order in a friendly way. There are always special offers to ease the pain. Have I been emailed any vouchers for money off? If you go as a family you can sometimes get cinema ticket thrown in.

What do you eat when you get there? Well, I favour the buffet, all you can eat for £5.49 help yourself to Pasta, slices of Pizza, fingers of garlic bread, constantly replenished, then round to the salad bar for lettuce and cucumber chickpeas sweetcorn and beetroot all smothered in dressing. Nice and healthy. What will my granddaughter want? there's plenty to choose from. Maybe a a spicy Chicken or a nice Ham and Pineapple Pizza with sides of potato wedges, chicken wings, garlic bread and a refillable drink, yes we can manage that. Maybe room for a small desert? I thought she was too old for the ice cream factory.

Then we can sit and chat, unless her friends walk by, when she will totally blank you and engage in deep conversation in some foreign language with them. She let's them know she's humouring me. They see some one else they know. Then she''ll be mine again. She'll slip her hand into mine on the way home - you're the BEST nan.
