      Very helpful

We ate in the restaurant early evening and our party consisted of three adults and three children, and having just been skating and had a walk through the city, we were certainly ready for some food!

The restaurant is situated in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, on the corner of Dean Street and Grey Street, and is close to the Theatre Royal and other bars and restaurants. There is plenty of on street parking and also close by is a multi storey car park, which does have a charge but at least the car is safe from the many revellers! It is also a short walk from the Metro and there are plenty of bus links so getting here is not an issue.

The restaurant is a Grade 2 listed building and showing my age im sure I remember it being a bank, although since then it has served as several different eateries. It is accessed via a few steps so would be tricky for anyone using a wheel chair.

Once inside, its quite clear why this is listed, with the fabulous high ceilings, and elegant floors and walls- lots of tiles and arches throughout the building. The wooden tables are dotted around the rooms with some of them being on a higher level again accesses via steps. It's all very visually appealing with a daily blackboard and lots of appropriate and attractive bits and pieces.

We thought that since it was before 6pm, we would qualify for Happy Hour, but when we arrived at the restaurant we were told that it was too late and the member of staff didn't seem to know the times of Happy Hour. It may have been the fact that it was the festive season but online it clearly states that Happy Hour is until 7pm. No matter we were at the restaurant and hungry.

The Happy Hour menu is good value (if you can get it). Diners can get any pizza pasta or risotto for £5.95 or get a starter and main course for £8.95.

There is also a children's menu which if I remember rightly was around £5 for starter main course (half pizza or pasta and chips) and dessert which is good value especially when feeding three hungry children. When the chosen pizzas came they were actually half of a full size pizza so a good size, and the staff even brought ketchup so clearly used to what children want.

I chose the Amatriciana (£6.96), as did another diner, and we both chose to have the penne. This came served in a large white bowl with the penne nicely cooked, and not at all soggy or too hard, and with just the right amount of sauce. Sometimes I feel there is too much or too little sauce and there was plenty of bacon; very tasty. The final adult in the party chose the Vegetarian pizza at £6.96. This wa a good size and had plenty of vegetables, and fortunately the base was nice and thin and just the right amount of crispy around the edges.

The main menu does have a good selection of pizzas, pastas and risottos as well as meat and fish dishes, and can be found on the website.

The restaurant is very conveniently situated for anyone in the centre of Newcastle. The menu features a range of dishes and when served is tasty and good portions. We also had a bottle of house wine and the bill came to just over £50 so really not too expensive for a city centre restaurant.

It's a good chain restaurant but nothing overly special but not a restaurant I would avoid.

      Thanks for reading

      Daniela xx
