Advantages: Very good service, good food and consistent
Disadvantages: The room with the bar is the nicest, downstairs is a bit poky, as are the loos.
I am very saddened to say that this restaurant is now closed due to expiry of their lease (or so they say). Prospect Grill is an American style bistro restaurant on Garrick Street in Covent Garden. It is beyond me why I never see any reviews of this superb restaurant. I am a regular visitor and have never been disappointed (except when I can't finish my food or sat next to a quarreling couple!). The decor is very soothing with dark red walls, dark wood and beautiful leather banquettes and chairs that I just want to stroke! The warm light is diffused by ridged green glass partitions, lifting the atmosphere. The clientele is usually business orientated although you do get lots of customers as it is quite romantic. The service is extremely slick and attentive. When I ordered a cocktail in advance for my partner who turned up a bit late, the bartender changed it for a fresh one when he arrived! As you never hear about Prospect Grill in any restaurant guides I have never yet been turned away or had to wait for a table despite not booking which is great even though they are usually very busy. The menu is fairly short with classic American dishes that are executed very well with extra garnishes or sauces to compliment the main ingredients. The restaurant uses organic main ingredients where possible - such as the steak and chicken. The starters include classics such as prawn cocktail, potted shrimps with brown bread, oysters, leek and egg tart and others. They are very large for starters and you really need to be hungry to have one as well as a main course. The main courses are superb. Steak is the big draw for me. There is a different cut everyday of organic meat. It is always tender, juicy and oh, so tasty! The steak comes with big beef mushrooms and chunky chips. Lovely, garlicky green beans are a good side with this. Other mains include free range roast chicken, grilled swordfish with a mango salsa amongst others. There are also sometimes d
aily specials which are often tempt me away from my favourites. Sides to go with the mains are salads, green beans , fries, new potatoes and so forth. Desserts include lovely unusual icecreams with chocolate shortbread and other tasty treats. Again, you get quite a lot so be sure to leave space. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. It is always a pleasure to come here and treat myself. Prices are about average for Covent Garden with starters between £3.50-£6.00ish, mains from about £8.00 and desserts at £3.75ish. The wine list is also not very long but there is a good selection. Expect to spend about £30 per head including wine. On special occasions they sometimes have live jazz.
