“ 138 High Road / East Finchley / London / N2 9ED / England „
In 2007 I moved to East Finchley and made it my priority to find a restaurant where my best friend and I could go every couple of weeks to share some good food and conversation. The type of food was unimportant, what mattered was comfort, cleanliness and friendly service. Lucky for us we found Quality Tandoori Restaurant almost immediately.
Quality Tandoori Restaurant is a Bangladeshi restaurant located on the High Street in East Finchley. It really couldn't be more conveniently located for the locals of East Finchley and in addition to eating in the restaurant you can order take away.
-Comfort and Atmosphere-
I find Quality to be a very comfortable restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere. They have a small seating area in front of the bar if you want to sit and wait for your table. I do think that this area is a little bit on the cramped side but as I have never been kept waiting for too long to be seated this has never really been much of an issue for me.
All of the chairs in the restaurant are very comfortable. I like to have a lot of support for my back and these chairs give excellent back support and they also have a soft seat which I feel increases comfort.
They do play music in the restaurant but it is kept to a good volume so that it's not difficult to talk over the music.
I have always found the restaurant to be very clean. I'm the kind of person who checks cutlery and glasses before using them and have never had to ask for clean cutlery or wipe it with a napkin (I tend to do that a lot in other restaurants!).
The only other complaint that I have in terms of comfort is that there are mirrors around the restaurant and I hate looking at myself in the mirror, especially when I'm eating. I would be much more comfortable if I didn't catch sight of myself when I looked up!
The service is excellent. In the 14 months that I've been regularly going to this restaurant I have never once experienced poor service, or even average service. Every time the service is excellent.
Everytime I go to the restaurant the staff greet me in a very friendly but professional manner. They have never become overly friendly and always maintain a professional distance, which I personally prefer because while it's nice to say hello and exchange a few words it can be annoying when you go to a restaurant and the staff keep you talking for a long time while you want to enjoy the company of your friends.
This isn't a perfect restaurant, there have been times when there have been delays with food during busy periods but the staff have been so apologetic and polite about it that I can't hold that against them. These things happen in all restaurants but I think it makes a big difference when the staff acknowledge that something has gone wrong and apologise before you have to complain about it.
Service is a lot slower during busy periods, for example Saturday nights but I generally go to this restaurant during the week straight from work and service at these times is really quick. Staff remain polite throughout and always return to ask how your meal is.
This is a restaurant that really looks after its regulars. My best friend and I went to this restaurant on my birthday and they gave us a free starter. There was another time when they gave us a free starter for no reason at all and they regularly give us free poppadoms. I think it's always nice to have restaurants show that they appreciate their regular customers and it makes me feel like I'm valued.
The food is also very good. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to food and don't eat food that is very spicy so I can't say that I've tried a huge variety of food on the menu but what I've tried I've really liked.
My favourite part of the meal is always the poppadoms. I don't particularly like the poppadoms as such, they're just so plain, but they have a really nice dip that I love to dip the poppadoms in. The dip that I like is a mint one and it's really creamy (and probably full of calories!).
The onion bhaji is really good. I generally don't like onion bhaji's but I find the ones at Quality to actually be really nice. My usual complaint is that there's too much onion and the taste can be too overpowering but Quality don't overdo it with the onion.
The chicken tikka massala is lovely, really creamy with a taste that isn't too strong.
The korma isn't to my personal taste, I find it to be a bit sweet but I have never tasted another korma so I can't say that it's something against Quality because it may just be that I don't like Korma.
My personal favourite main meal is the vegetable pasanda. It's very mild which is exactly how I like my food! As I said before, I can't eat spicy food. Quality's vegetable pasanda isn't really any different to any other vegetable pasanda in any other restaurant in my opinion, but it does taste very good.
Quality Tandoori Restaurant is one of my favourite restaurants. The food is very good, although probably not any better than any other decent restaurant. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are very friendly and polite. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be accessible to wheelchair users.
