Advantages: Good food, family friendly
Disadvantages: slightly pricey
Quod is my favourite restaurant in Oxford. It is a very chic bar & restaurant & is most certainly the place to be on a Saturday night. It is based on High Street in Oxford and is found within the Old Bank hotel.
According to its website it specifies that it is 'Oxfords busiest brasserie' & to be honest, this is probably true. I have not been to this restaurant at a time where it has been quiet, even midweek evenings are bustling.
*pre dinner cocktails*
We tend to visit on a Saturday night. Due to its popularity, Saturday evening table booking is not allowed. You turn up, put in your request for a table and are guided to the bar. The bar area is modern and chic. It is a square area with stools around it where you can watch the barmen making up some of the delicious alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails on the menu. I usually take a mojito here as I have found it to be one of the best in oxord though my husband prefers the cucumber martini.
The bar area nor the restaurant is the cheapest place to be, though I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for and I would rather spend a few extra pounds on an excellent restaurant than a satisfactory restaurant.
*Dining experience*
The food is delicious and the menu has a varied choice suitable for everyone. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in the restaurant. On a Sunday, traditional roasts are served and Sunday evenings, live jazz is played in the restaurant.
Starters can vary from bruschetta to caesar salad to crab.
Main courses can range from fish dishes to burgers to pizza to shank of lamb. The food is in the upper middle price range in my opinion but is worth the money.
The wine selection is good and a varied choice of different wines with different flavours and suitability for different foods and occassions. There will be something here for everyones taste.
*Family friendly*
It is not very often that we have visited Quod with our children, however, when we have it has been found that the restaurant is very child friendly. Considering that this is a cosy and fashionable restaurant, they have their own childrens menus too which is a far cry from the usual chicken nuggets and chips to be found on childrens menus and is a welcome relief. An example of food choices for your little ones will be :
free range chicken breast
fish finger sandwich
crispy squid
*Service & facilities*
The service is top class. The staff wear smart uniforms and are very keen to help and ensure that your dining experience is enjoyable and care free.
The toilets are always clean and fresh and as I like when I'm out whilst also well stocked with Molton brown hand wash and moisturiser.
In short, a great restaurant whether it be for a family meal or a romantic occassion. Slightly heavy on the wallet but you will still return!
Summary: good food, good ambience and a great mood!
