Restaurants in Cumbria in generalNewest Review: ... the menu, the wine list, the ambience put many metropolitan eating places to shame. The menu is modern European - lots of the 'grilled corn fed chicken' and 'seared tuna' type course, but with the emphasis on local ingredients, like fresh salmon or lamb. Steak is very good here, and they had the vegetables judged perfectly: no sign of the usual microwaved plate of wilting carrot sticks. Garlic mash was gorgeous and could quite happily have been a main on its own for me! The wine list is thoughtful and varied, with a reasonably priced sparkling wine and interesting house wines. It's really encouraging to see ambiti... more |

Zest is amazing - it's as if a really top quality London restaurant has been swept up in a whirlwind and placed on the roadside between St Bees and Whitehaven. To say it's ambitious for the area is to do it an injustice - the decoration, the menu, the wine list, the ambience put many metropolitan eating places to shame. The Allerdal Court Hotel is home to 2 of the finest restaurants in Cockermouth - Oscars and the Pickwick restaurant. Both are of very high standard and serve excellent food and there is also a good standard of service. Oscars is an Italian style restaurant with a large variety of food on the menu. The restaurant is green and mahogany style finish. Look out for the waiter, Tony, as he is funny as hell. The food is very good quality but is quite on the expensive side. The Pickwick Restaurant is a bit different. There is a set, five course menu which costs about £17.95. The food is excellent and the main course was silver served. There is ... I have been to many a restaurant in Cumbria , but none compared to the quality of food and service that Nikkis in Cockermouth brought us. Nikkis has a excellent menu, filled with both new meals with intrequate design and past favourites which have made italian cuisine as it is today. Nikkis himself brought us a great amount of Italian charm which made the night complete. It was Summer when we visited Nikki and we were able to eat outside which made feel as though we were in Italy. A most enjoyable meal and i would recomend it to anyone. Just to see nikkis charm is this resaurant worth a visit!! ... Read the complete review
