      Any one thinking of going for a meal at the lion inn at boreham chelmsford beware. The place is now going the same way as many pubs. Poor service, overpriced processed food.And don't believe what's written on any of the restaurant forums, it's all lies.Just lots of money spent on P.R instead of quality food.

      dull, dull, dull.

      service with a smile, whatever!!!
      the staff were obviously not happy to be there, polite but not happy.

      the food was rubbish. i had the mexican paella, well, it tasted exactly the same as the bags of flavoured rice you add water to and boil for ten minutes. it was appaling.

      the drinks menu was short, very minimal selection, the same for deserts menu. it was bad. i wont be going back again.

      What used to be Bozo's Restaurant on Rayne Road, Braintree is now called La Piazza Italian Restaurant. The restaurant interior is little changed from Bozo's which is not necessarily a bad thing - As the building is quite old and retains some nice architectural features such as original oak beams et al. The only area at fault is the decor upstairs leading to the toilets which could do with revamping (and I suppose as the restaurant is fairly new the present owners will upgrade this area in the near future). the restaurant is split into 3 separate dining areas with a small bar upon entrance to the establishment. (toilets are upstairs from the bar). The dining areas are set at different levels with a smoking section for those inclined. There are two menus, a Lunch Specials menu, with dishes costing from £4-8. There is usually a lunch promotion available for about £5 (usually pizza or pasta and salad) The main a la carte menu is available at both Lunch and Dinner (it has a wide selection of well priced starters and main courses). A specials black board is also available which contains 5 additional special dishes which change daily. We went on probably the busiest night of the week, saturday . service was friendly and attentive (although the restaurant got very crowded by 8pm - I would suggest going earlier (it opens at 6.30pm) to avoid the crush in the small bar area. The menu is quite wide ranging covering pasta, risotto, pizza, meat and fish dishes, and caters for most tastes. I had soup and grilled sword fish and my wife had sardines and seafood spaghetti.cheapest red wine was £10.95 and was very good for the money. meal was a good experience, and staff and ambience were excellent. bill including service, wine and coffee was £46 (not too bad as the portion sizes were adequate and the food was well presented). If you live in Braintree or the surrounding areas, the restaurant is
      definitely worth a visit as there are not many restaurants in the local area (offering quality food). Pity the restaurant isn't closer to chelmsford where I actually live (or this restaurant would become a firm favourite).         When you first see the Popular restaurant on Leigh-on-Sea's broadway, you might think it is a typical greasy spoon establishment, but looking at the menu gives a slightly different story. The owners of the restaurant appeart to be Cypriot, but they seem to have surrendered to the locals, and meals are essentially British in character. However, it is still possible to branch out a little.There is still vine leaves as a starter (judged to be pretty good), and moussaka as a main course, but the fare is essentially British. We went on a Sunday, and clearly the restaurant's name was technically correct. It is crowded. The decor owes more to Formica and fake wood panelling than to Cyprus. There is a substantial menu of meals. For novelty value, I had the oxtail soup as a starter (takes me back). The waiter/owner admitted it was tinned, and Mr Heinz has a good customer in him. Grapfruit was fresh, and Avocado came with prawns or nothing. Fried fish was a good fresh portion, and roast beef was as expected. I had the steak and kidney pie, which appeared home made, but was light on kidney. The drink list was limited, but wine cost no more than £9. If we had really wanted, we could have had Moet et Chandon for £27 but we passed on that. The waiter knocked the bottle of wine on to my neighbours knee, and after assessing the damage, said it was my fault for not giving him enough room. The good news is that it is fairly priced. Lunch for six including drinks came to about £70. Amongst the elderly, there is a faithful following: clearly they must be doing something right, but I could not help but feel, knowing the origins of the staff, that it could have a bit more exciting. But the clientele probably don't want that.
