You need to try this food!

Doughy's Brasserie has only been open for a few months and I have been there loads of times. It is just what we need in hitchin and the food is just fantastic.

It is really comfortable and welcoming and the staff are all really nice. Great wines too.

They change their menu all the time and it is always hard to choose what to eat. The puddings are to die for, especially the sticky toffee pudding.

Well worth a visit. The best restaurant in Hitchin in my view. It is on Bancroft at no.87

Hitchin is a small Market town just of the A1 wedged between Stevenage and Luton (now that makes it sound nice doesn't it). I have lived in Hitchin for several years and in its favour it does have quite a few restaurants. The layout is as follows : Streets branching off of the market square have most of the restaurants on them. Most are less then 3 minutes walk from the market square, also there are a dozen or so bars and pubs within 5 minutes walk from the square. Australian ========== Bundeena Brasserie : 107 Bancroft Frequently changing menu with lots of fish 01462 456711 http://www.bundeena.co.uk/ Indian ====== Lots including: Bombay Garden : Bancroft 01462 452466 Indian Brasserie : Bancroft 01462 433001 Khana Stan : Hermitage Road 01462 450635 Raj Douth Hermitage Road 01462 437674 These are just the ones I have tried The Indian Brasserie is probably the best but is quite small so booking is necessary. Often end up in Khana Stan or just 'Stan' as we like to call him after a few beers. Also loads of good take-aways all over. Italian /Pizza ============== Marcellos : Sun Street Large italian with extensive menu, perhaps a little expensive compared to others but nice atmosphere. 01462 631641 http://www.marcellos.co.uk/ La Bella Vita : Sun Street Top end with nice linen, somewhere for a posh meal and quite conservative. Good italian food 01462 434380 Pizza Express : Market Place The usual pizzas, dough balls and salads.A regular of mine and my girlfriends favorite pizzas. Large and busy so book at the weekends. 01462 450596 http://www.pizzaexpress.co.uk/indexf.htm Pizza Piazza : Have only been once sometime ago and was quite smokey. Had odd pizzas like tandoori chicken tikka. Not my favorite. 01462 421101 http://www.pizzapiazza.co.uk/ Greek ===== Bar Meze : Bucklersbury
Not your usual plate smashing greek type place. But fairly good mediterranean food and of course a full meze which is gut busting. The wine is a let down and avoid anything under £15 although they do have Keo greek beer. 01462 455566 English/French ish ================== Hitchin Priory : Tilehouse Street Fantastic english food in lush setting, priced accordingly though. Part of hotel, but don't let that put you off, with nice grounds and views. 01462 420500 http://www.hitchinpriory.co.uk/ Just 32 : Sun Street Cosy and intimate with good food. Most of the tables are for 2 and cater more or less exclusively to couples. Closed in mondays, as I often forget. 01462 455666 Bridge St Bistro : Bridge Street Nothing to do with Eastenders, but a cheapish french style bistro with check table cloths, etc. 01462 440072 Scottish ======== Cafe Ecosse : Bridge Street An odd concept but well cooked food with a scottish feel (salmon, haggis, steak) and normally a good selection of scottish and belgian beer. They were out of most beers last time I went but it was a monday. 01462 431661 Chinese ======= Mandarin Gourmet : Sun Street Air conditioned chinese restaurant with good service and an all you can eat buffet during the week + sundays where you keep ordering from the menu until you leave thing. Unlimited crispy duck heaven. 01462 451698 http://www.mandaringourmet.co.uk/ Regent Cottage : High Street Another eat as much as you like for c.£14. The decor is slightly more interesting but the service is not as thorough, food just as good. I have only been once so perhaps could have been on a busy night. 01462 432270 http://www.regentcottage.co.uk/ This is just a few of the restaurants I have tried all of which are fairly good, my favorites overall being the scottish and greek places. There are also loads of pubs aroun
d the town which serve food and the licencing is a bit more lenient with some places open til midnight.
