Advantages: great food, lovely staff, cleanliness
Disadvantages: gets very very busy, too full when you come out
The Woodmans Cottage in Gorefield near Wisbech is my favourite restaurant i have been to in England. The reason being - they do the most loveliest desserts ever!!! When you get to it (it is located near Wisbech in a small village called Gorefield), you go inside and it looks so warm and inviting. On cold days they have a nice log fire going. When you go in, there is a bar and you usually have to order a table beforehand as it is very busy in there! You can choose to have your meal in the bar or in the restaurant out the back! If you don't like busy restaurants then this is not the place for you - though the food is excellent in mine and my family's opinions. We go there most of the time, especially for family celebrations or at times like Christmas etc. They have a menu which consists of lots of different dishes and even a kiddies menu. They even have specials of the day dishes which you will find on the boards as you go in. They cater for everyone - whether you are a meat eater, a kid or a vegetarian. Their food is absoulutely delicious and they give you quite big portions also. The food is about the same price as most places in England i believe! Of course thats what you'd expect over here - whereas if you was to go abroad it would be much cheaper! One good thing though, is that the staff are very very helpful and friendly, even though they are under a lot of pressure. They all look a bit hot and flustered whenever we go in there as they are always so busy, but i'm sure they are probally used to it :) One of the things i hate most about The woodmans cottage is the fact that they have so many lovely looking desserts to choose from, that someone who has a sweet tooth can stand at the dessert counter for ages deciding what to have. They do everything from trifles to pavlovas to cheesecakes and roulettes etc! You should see the desserts if you haven't already - they are covered in cream and each
one sits there dying to come in your mouth! My brain usually sends vibes to my stomach saying have them all! hehe. I have found the ideal dessert from there that i have every time. I cant live without it. Though i have to - as i dont know how to make it, so i can only have it when i get there :(. It is called 'tropical fruit pavlova' and is like this: a meringue base with some delicious type of cream on top (loads of it). Then it is filled with marshmallows, orange segments, pineapple pieces.ooh my mouth is watering just typing this! They also pour this lovely cream over the top!!! :) yummy!!! If anyone knows what cream they use in this extra 10/10 100% delicious yummy dessert - then please please please let me know! It would be greatly appreciated! They also have loads of other tempting desserts all covered with cream and waiting to be eaten, but i dont think id have enough room in my stomach after my helping of fruit pavlova. They give out quite generous helpings, which is great for people who only get to try their favourite desserts every so often. Usually my parents end up getting different desserts to me so i have to ask them nicely for a taste! After dessert, they do coffee and either after eight mints or mint imperials. Of course any of these courses are only optional but i suggest to everyone - go to this restaurant with a very empty stomach and you will come out feeling very full and glad you went in there as you will enjoy your meal! By the way, if you go into other restaurants and order steak e.g. cooked rare, they usually dont do it to your satisfaction but in The woodmans cottage it has so far come out excacly as people have asked for it. The thing that is different from the woodmans cottage to everywhere else - is definetly the choice of the desserts!!! :)I also find that the restaurant is very clean too!
