Advantages: safely 'average', not too expensive, usually busy
Disadvantages: very 'average', takes a while to get drinks
It had come to that point in the evening where we either had to go home or find a club, and having dim memories from my student days of Roadhouse being nearby and a 'reliable bet' I persuaded our group that going to a club would be more fun than going home... many visits later I think I was probably right...
Roadhouse is situated on the opposite side of Covent Garden to the tube station and is entered down some stairs. On our last visti we arrived at 1130pm on a Saturday night yet still only had to queue for around 15 minutes. The bouncers were efficient but not overbearing, and the blow of £12 to get in was lessened by the '2-for-1' flyer we'd been given near the tube station.
As a club it is average size, average darkness with above average amount of American memborabilia scattered about (think motorbikes and road signs.) Its main selling point is the fact it is virtually always busy and seemingly full of people ready to have fun - the atmosphere is generally happy. Drinks are reasonably priced (by London standards) although the bar never seems to have enough staff and getting served can be a mission. There is seating scattered around, and it is for general use not just for those who have paid a fortune for a table for the night. The music varies by night, and there are often live bands for part of the evening. Toilet facilities are also average.
In summary, I realized I've used the word 'average' a lot and that is because that is exactly what Roadhouse as a club is: average. It is never going to be an amazing night but then it rarely lets you down either. For this reason I would recommend it for those wanting a 'safe' night out dancing.
Summary: A reliable bet for a fun night out dancing
