Advantages: Convenient riverside location, pleasant garden

Disadvantages: Unbelievably foul food, poor service

The first two times we ate at the Rushcutter, the food was average. However, it's a very attractive riverside pub, and we do a lot of boating on the Broads. During the summer, it's not always easy to find a mooring near a decent pub or restaurant, so we thought we would give it another go. As it was a sunny Sunday afternoon in August, the place was packed--usually a good recommendation.

However, when my wife went up to order, another guest was returning their meal. We soon found out why. The food was served quickly enough--but the service is pretty marginal. We were sitting outside (at table 77), and we had to walk all the way back into the pub just to get knives and forks.

I had the roast lamb dinner, and my wife had the half-chicken. Good value, one would think, at £8.95--though not as good as at the Ferry Inn in Surlingham, which does an excellent carvery at £6.95. Mine was bad enough--the lamb was OK (ish), but the rest of was all but tasteless. Except for the roast potatoes, which were foul. It was all glopped together with sloppy mashed potatoes, no doubt made from dehydrated spuds.

My wife had half of a good-sized chicken-- which tasted of fish meal. She didn't eat more than a bite. The dog didn't seem to mind it. Fortunately, we had plenty of munchies on the boat.

Summary: Never again
