Without a shadow of a doubt, San Pietro was a wonderful evening out for me and my husband. The whole experience was excellent. Can't wait to return, only wished we lived closer.
well what to say ........i looked really chic and one thinks that ur going to have master chef quality food but to be honest its far from it the chef for one does not know the difference between pork and chicken . And for one who does not eat pork was mentaly and emotionaly tramatized when the chef decided to mess up my food and made me eat pork .....i still feels nauseous after 2 days ............it was a very family unfriendly place and not very welcoming for my daughter .....and even the food tasted just ok nothing out of the ordinary and certinally not worth the amount of money they are charging .....i would recommend to all to save ur money and dont waste ur time or energy to go there ..............best of luck guys
Living in Scunthorpe has few advantages if you listen to the cliches spouted by those that have never visited . It is not a beautiful town by any stretch of the imagination. It will never be a tourist trap or a major cultural centre. But it does have some jewels hidden away from the braying classes.
San Pietro is probably it's finest jewel, and would sit happily, cheek by jowl, alongside any other refined Italian restaurant in the UK...and probably Italy too.I have been fortunate enough to dine at many supposed top restaurants here and abroad and have generally had good, and sometimes, great meals. I have always enjoyed great meals at San Pietro.
Piero (Head Chef) hails from Sicily while his wife Michelle is a local girl and works front of house. They both set demanding standards for themselves and their staff. And from my experiences, never fail to hit the mark.
From the fixed price menu to the a la carte menus, all dishes are lovingly prepared and served impeccably. The evolution of the menu has seen some great twists on traditional English and Italian staples. Using local produce as much as possible, with the seasons dicatating the course on offer, the quality is second to none.
The wine list is extensive and offers the full range to suit every budget and palate. The sommelier is knowledgable and will direct you to the most suitsble wine within your price range...unlike some other reataurants I could name.
The cheese board is superb, ranking alongside the Wintringham Fields produce, and must be allowed for.
The dessert menu is also varied and delicious although to be honest I rarely have room for it as well as the cheeseboard.
I can honestly say, with hand on heart, that you would not regret making the time to visit San Pietro.
San Pietro.......in our opinion a wonderful experience.
Me, my husband and family have been many times and have never been disappointed.
The hosts, Piero and Michelle Catalano are always on hand to welcome everyone into their restaurant.
The staff, many of which have proudly worked their since the start of the business, have a wide knowledge of the delightful food on offer and wines and cocktails available.
We have also eaten their on several Mothering Sundays and attended a couple of their many charity events. All are so well organised, in such delightful surroundings, with food to die, that we decided to have our wedding reception their in March 09.
We all had such a wonderful day, the children were entertained in the mill room, while the adults enjoyed fantastic food and danced the night away. Try it, they have a huge variety of choice, with prices for every budget.
Just noticed on their VIP club bullietin that cookery courses are available in 2010, WOW :-)
I can only assume the reviewer who has rated San Pietro so highly is either employed there, or they have never ventured out of Scunthorpe.
When i visited San Pietro, albeit neigh on a year ago, the lasting memory of the restaurant was unsuccessful, pretentious food with a hefty price tag.
The menu system was confusing and even though myself and my lunching partner chose to follow set menus which added up to around twenty-five pounds each and had only a drink each, we some how ended up paying in excess of sixty pounds!
San Pietro while not awful, delivers only mediocre food at best but prices itself as though it were a jewel of the michelin guide. The poncy 'wannabe-gourmet' style doesn't live up to the quality of the cooking.
In conclusion the food here is all smoke and no fire, while not bad definitely not value for money. Would not recommend unless you have an excess of cash and an under tuned pallet.
For those of you who don't know Scunthorpe at all your only experience of it will be as the butt of tv jokes,Robbie Coltraines Cracker character used to say Scunthorpe instead of cheers each time he took a drink..
Anyhow cultural or tourist mecca it may not be but it has at least one thing going for it:
The restaraunt San Pietro!
Located on High Street East in a former windmill it offfers a fine dining experience. The quality of food and the presentation along with attention to detail is fantastic
Husband and wife team Piero and Michelle deliver fantastic mediterranean food in a lovely setting a huge conservetory and garden terrace add to the ambience .quite modern in decor and very high class
All food comes imaginively displayed like little works of art in between courses you given little morselss of food to whet your appetite for the next course .All the waiters are very well dressed with their long aprons an burberry ties ,very continental the best thing about the service for me is when the food comes t the table they just know who ordered what no need to ask.In addition you are never rushed the table is yours for the night and the waiters dont bother you in fact they are almost telepathic appearing only when you require them
