Having been to the Siam Garden on many occasions I feel I am in the position to respond to our learned friend ahoy's report. The Siam Garden must rate as my favourite restaurant, anywhere, ever. The food quality is always faultless, the range of choices is endless. The wine menu has a price and taste to suit everyone. My only criticisms are that I prefer to top up my wine glass myself and the fact that the toilets are impossible for the disabled.

Firstly, I don’t claim to have visited every restaurant in Liverpool, however I have been to a lot of them over the past 9years and as far as I’m concerned, this is the best of the bunch. Situated at the Penny Lane end of Smithdown Road, the Siam Garden is easily accessible by bus, however if you wish to drive, you’ll have to park in residential areas. Enough of that. One important point is that you really need to book if you want to eat there between 1900h – 2200h. The restaurant itself is somewhat basic although comfortable. It doesn’t really afford one too much privacy although it is a good venue for a quiet meal out. The service is very friendly, drinks being brought to you quickly (Singa Lager is quite a nice beer). The menu has a-la-carte and banquet options and is pricey for Liverpool – the top banquet menu being around £25 / head (still quite reasonable however). The food here is exceptional. On my first visit, I opted to select my own menu, having a mixed starter and cracked ribs. This was followed by fillet steak with holy basil and a red king prawn curry. On a subsequent visit, we opted for the top banquet and it was magnificent – one of our party rated in 10/10 – personally, it was 9, but who’s quibbling! It is really beyond the scope of this review to go through the menu as it is very diverse – all I’ll say is book, go along and try it – you won’t be disappointed (I hope!). As an aside, if you want to go for a few drinks afterwards, there is the Tavern Co. pub next door and Penny Lane Wine Bar just around the corner – quite a good location.
