Advantages: Great atmosphere

Disadvantages: Expensive coffee

I think it is important to make clear at the start of this review that I am reviewing the Starbucks experience as a whole, not the coffee, which I will review later under the correct heading.

I think that with starbucks, the Americans have got something right. The atmosphere in a Starbucks is exactly what a coffee shop should be. Modern, trendy and relaxed. You go in so many coffee shops in the UK and they feel old fashioned, stuffy and in many occasions not very welcoming. You feel like you are being encouraged to leave as soon as you have come in.

This is not the case in starbucks, the plethora of chairs and tables makes for an enjoyable experience, and the fact that on the basic coffee range you can get a refill makes the experience worthwhile.

Dont get me wrong Starbucks UK is not the perfect deal. For those of you who have been to America, you will know that Starbucks is freighteningly cheaper in the States than it has ever been here. The coffee prices in the UK are a little steep, however, I do feel that when you are staying in Starbucks you are paying for the full experience.

My only other problem with Starbucks is that sometimes, because they are very busy cleanliness can take a back seat. Not with cups and the preperation process, but with the seats and tables. Used cups can be left lying around and becareful sometimes when you sit down. I once went in my suit, sat on a chair and had a lovely chocolate stain to show for my troubles.

On the positive, I especially like how Starbucks is setting up more stores in bookshops, especially Borders. In many of these outlets you are actually allowed to pick up magazines and books and read them while you are enjoying a coffee. Just be aware not to mess up what you are reading or you will be asked to pay for it, and please note this does not apply in every store.

Overall, I would highly recommend the starbucks experience. Now if only they could improve their coffee, but that another review for another time

Summary: The best place to sit in and enjoy a coffee
