      A favourite back home

Steels Cornerhouse Restaurant is most probably the best fish and chip restaurant I have ever been to and it is definitely the best you will get in Cleethorpes. As Cleethorpes is the neighbouring town to my home town of Grimsby, it does take a little while for me to travel all the way to Steels but it is worth it. The restaurant is in the center of Cleethorpes so if you're getting a bus it is only a short walk away and there is also parking just outside the restaurant.

I recently went back to Steels for a family meal/ to show my boyfriend what real fish and chips was like and we went on a Saturday night. Although we have been going here for years, we had no idea you could book in advance so we were left waiting for a while to be seated as there were 7 of us. The wait was getting so long and a line was forming out of the door so we decided to have 2 tables close to each other instead. During peak times, Steels gets extremely busy due to its amazing reputation for being the best and in the summer, I have seen lines coming out of the door and round the street because people are prepared to wait to eat here.

When we were finally seated, our orders were taken quite quickly and drinks brought over in only a couple of minutes. Considering the restaurant was nearly full and so busy, the staff were fast and efficient but I guess they are used to how busy this place gets. The restaurant is split into upstairs and downstairs so although it was busy, it was never too loud. There are never too many people seated in one place or very close together so at least you can have a conversation in peace without having to shout over people.

Even though this restaurant is famous for its fish and chips, the menu has a lot to offer. If you don't want fish, there is also the option of meals like burgers, steak, gammon, salads and omelettes. Not everyone likes fish so I liked the fact that there was a choice for everyone. There is also a childrens menu. All 7 of us had medium haddock (they don't sell cod) and chips, with either peas or beans, which cost £8.95 but this also comes with a drink and bread and butter. While this may seem expensive to some people, the portions are great.

When our food came, after only a 15 minute wait, I had forgotten just how much food you get for your money here. My piece of fish took up half of my plate while the chips took up the other half. If you have beans like I did, they come in a separate little bowl as there isn't enough room on the plate for them. Steels only serve the best fish as well which is why you can't order cod here. The haddock is pure white and the batter crisp and fresh. The chips were hot but not greasy and tasted great. With added salt and vinegar, this is one of my favourite meals to have when I go home. You can't quite get fish and chips like this from anywhere else.

If you find yourself in Cleethorpes, Steels is the place to go. Unfortunately though, they don't do a take away service so you will have to have a sit down meal but I promise you it would be worth it.
