Advantages: fresh, great taste, lots of offers, fountain (as much as you want) drinks

Disadvantages: getting a bit pricey but, at the moment, still worth it

--- What Is It? ---

Subway is a sandwich fast food shop that originated in America and has since spread to other countries. The idea is that your sandwich is created totally according to what you want, from the type of bread and size (6" or foot long) right down to the sauce and salad choices.

The restaurants are generally laid out in a conveyor belt fashion which has around 3 or 4 staff on different areas. One usually deals with your bread choice and main filling, you then move down to the second who sorts out your salad choices and sauces and then finally to the third who totals it up and takes your money.

This system, in my experience at least, is very efficient and ensures even the longest queue is dealt with relatively quickly.

--- Variety ---

From plain tuna or ham right up to Meatball Marinara there is a vast selection of sandwiches available for you including a vegetarian option in the form of the Veggie Sub.

--- Price ---

Subway stores offer a 'Sub Of The Day' which is a 6" sandwich pre-selected for certain days, i.e if you go in on a monday you can expect to be able to get Turkey Breast & Ham (changes sometimes) for just £1.99 with as much salad and sauce on as you want!

Aside from the offers the sandwiches go up to around £3.50 or so for the full on Chicken Terriaki or Subway Melt style sandwiches.

Subway also open in the mornings for breakfast subs such as Bacon & Egg.

--- Opening Hours ---

Vary per store but generally open from early until quite late.

--- Offers ---

Look out for Subway voucher booklets that offer things like '2 can dine for £5.99' allowing 2 people the choice of any sub sandwich (6") with a drink and cookie or crisps for just £5.99 or the current flyers offering 50p off a sub.

--- Deals ---

The main deal offered is a 'Meal Deal' that allows you to upgrade your sandwich on its own to a full meal with a choice of a cookie (different types available) or crisps and a drink (bottled or from a self service machine) for £1.29. Note that if you opt to eat in and have a drink from the self service machine you can keep going back for refills if you want until you leave. Also note that if you have a foot long sandwich then you'll get 2 cookies if you upgrade instead of just one.

--- Summary ---

The food is fantastic and healthy as you can have as little or as much as you want on the sandwich. Even though some people may see the place as being quite pricey I feel that it is worth it as you know exactly what's going on it as you see it being made in front of you and the offers that are frequently on are great.

Beautiful fresh food made in front of you that tastes great with proper crisp salad instead of a sandwich that has been sitting in a fridge for hours or on a shelf in a store.

The only thing I will say is that the price to make it a meal deal seems to be going up quite a bit and so keep an eye on it as pretty soon it will be too expensive for itself I feel.

Summary: Beautiful fresh food made in front of you that tastes great with proper crisp salad

I had a what looks like a piece of tooth in my meatball marinara this morning, I assume it was bone, but I was nearly sick, couldn't eat another bite. I'm sure I'll still go back but that put me off. Brill review.
