Advantages: Deliciously fresh products, get to choose your own salad etc.
Disadvantages: Staff can seem a little wooden and queues can get quite long on weekends.
My review is based on my experiences of the two Subway outlets I have visited in Harlow, Essex (there are actually three now within the space of a few miles).
Upon entering the Subway they are both quite small but have some tables & chairs as well as some high stools and a bar or two to eat your sandwich on.
You then enter the queue (pretty much always have to queue!) and then you are at the salad bar type area.
First you will be asked to make your selection of baguette of which there are normally 4 (wheat, plain, italian herbs & cheese and something else - sorry can't remember), you can then choose whether you want a 6" or a 12" (footlong) sub.
Then you will choose your main ingredients, i.e ham & cheese or cajun chicken etc, there are lots of sandwiches to choose from and the prices as well as the main ingredients are displayed on screens above the counter.
Once you have chosen your ingredients and your sandwich has been built for you you have the option to have it toasted, have extra cheese etc.
Then once toasted (or not - your choice) your server will move your sandwich along to the next area which is where the salad is, they seem to have pretty much everything here: cucumber, lettuce, white onion, red onion, tomatoes, peppers, olivers etc and everything always looks lovely and fresh.
You can also choose from quite a few different sauces: bbq, tomato ketchup, brown sauce, salad cream, mayonnaise etc.
Once your sandwich is finished it will be wrapped and passed down to the server at the cash till you will try and interest you in cookies (on the front counter in a little acrylic box) and ask whether you would like to make it a meal deal.
A meal deal is your sandwich, a drink from the machine and either a packet of crisps or a cookie.
The cookies seem to be freshly made and are very tasty and they normally have several different varieties of Walkers crisps too as well as Doritos etc.
If you don't want a meal deal you can choose a drink, either a bottle drink or one of those large plastic cups with a plastic lid and a straw. If you choose the second option you will be handed your cup by the till server and you can make your own drink and choose how many ice (if any) you require, then just select the correct sized lid and you are all set.
I generally find that there is seating when I go (normally a Saturday lunchtime) and the tables are always cleaned down very promptly (some people are too lazy to carry their own rubbish over to a bin obviously).
Generally it's around £2.70 for the sandwich I have (6" Italian Herbs & Cheese with Chicken, Cheese & BBQ sauce - If you were interested!) and I normally just have this on its own unless my other half is paying!
The bread is always lovely and fresh, the ingredients are always fresh and I love the choice of being able to watch somebody build your sandwich for you and is just so many different ingredients to choose from.
The staff are always very polite in our local Subways but their language skills sometimes seem very limited to "what bread" "toasted" "salad" "sauce" and "£2.70 please" so I wouldn't recommend trying to have too much banter with your server (As I am sometimes guilty of doing).
I would recommend Subway, it's a quick place to pick up a delicious sandwich, they normally have special offers too such as a sub of the day (ham or tuna normally) for £1.99 and that's a bargain in my opinion!
Summary: I would recommend going here, a great place to get a fast, tasty lunch that's pretty healthy!
