Advantages: The quick service and total choice over the sandwich

Disadvantages: The high calorie counts

Do we view Subway as a reliable place for a sandwich whatever time of day or a seller of high calorie, or an American branded, global dominant fast food chain?

Hmm depends on what you want at the time, are the sandwiches nice and depends on how neurotic you are. If you concentrate on the sandwiches, is Subway a good thing or not?

Well yes obviously, you have complete sway over everything you want, you can pick the type of bread rolls, the filling, whether you want it toasting, in a nut shell you can have ANYTHING so rather than the bad press which surrounds MacDonalds and other fast fod outlets, you really do have total control over the calories your taking into your body.

Saying that though, the Subway basic 6 oe 12 inch subs are very high in calories, again it depends on your choice, if you pick a twelve inch meatball marinara with cheese topping loads of dressing, a pack of crisps and full fat coke. Then don't come back wondering why after a few months on that every lunchtime wonder why your jeans don't fit or your not the body beautiful you used to be when your walking along the seashore on your holiday in the Med in the summer.

So the strengths of Subway are the range of sandwiches, the speed and the comfort of watching your sandwich being made in front of your eyes, you have total control over your sandwich creation, its best to have a good idea about what you want because most Subways at lunchtime get really busy so the sellers fire questions at you pretty quickly. Its best to stick to waht you like and if your a bitof a Subway virgin go with a friend. You can email and text your selections to your local Subway for collection without the hassle.

The downsides are the hidden calories if you go for the higher fat content sandwiches, the price it can be quite expensive if all you want is a quick snack but if its an occasional sandwich I don't see any problem with that.


Then there the rage against a globally dominant brand which must be evil as all global brands are crushing the independent local sandwich making places, usually this is prefaced by moaning about closing local sandwich shops etc but look at yourself did you ever go to any of these local sandwich shops?

So my tip, have a subway occassionally as with all fast food but don't try and live on it or you'll regret the decision. My personal favourite is the meatball marinara with cheese, its really bad for you but if you only have one every few months then it won't kill you but every day,. Having one every day will mean you put weight on and probably play havoc with your stomach.

A final point are that Subway sandwiches are expensive when you think about what they are and have higher calories than you'd expect, indeed some of the meatball marinades can be higher than a Big Mac but as an occasional treat then they are ok.

Summary: Enjoy every once in a while.
