Well i visited taybarns (swansea) yesterday 7/7/09 as many people have told me how great it is.
We arrived there about 12 o'clock which is half an hour after opening time.First impressions were that is was clean and tidy,we ordered a drink at the bar and payed for the buffet which was £5.99 and the drink was re-filable for £1.99. One of the members of staff showed us what to do as we hadn't been there before and she was very polite and helpful.
We could sit anywere we liked so once we found a table we went up to our starters. There was a selection of soups with bread rolls etc or salad with ham/fish etc. The selection in the salad section was lovely, plenty of peppers,horse radish,onions , potatoe salad,dressings etc . We both decided to have the ham and i have to say it was stunning.
There are a massive selection of food to choose from for the main course eg.mexican,carvery,pizza,pasta,rotisserie,grill and wok. Once finishing our starter we decided to go for the carvery option.Well this is were it all started to go wrong.
We picked up our plate , one was dirty the other was wet. We got to the carvery section were we were met with a selection of rather cottage pie,pork steaks or gammon.The veg included cauliflower cheese,cabbage,boiled potatoes,roast potatoes,peas,sweetcorn and gravy.We took our plates with everything on back to our seats and well it was awful. The meat was unedible,i couldnt cut it with a knife.(considering we only got there half hour after opening time). The boiled potatoes were not cooked at all, the roast potatoe i found a black bug in it,the cabbage was mush,the cauliflower cheese well words cant describe how bad it was . It was so bad i rushed off to the toilet to be sick!!.
So we left our plates as told by the waitress on the table and went to try something else, i had a veg skewer,pizza,tuna bake pasta and some garlic bread. The veg was raw, the pizza had a funny tang to it ,the pasta was completely dry and the garlic bread was tasteless.
So we left the plates again and went for dessert, we had the apple pie and custard. Well the custard wasnt too bad the apple pie had the core still in it but other then that it was edible.
I have to say im not a fussy eater but i was appauled by the fact that literally in my eyes there wasnt much food actually cooked right. So in turn we decided to leave, although i couldnt leave without saying something to the manager which i found to be a young boy. When i told him what was wrong with the food he said "oh i will have a word with the carvery team". No apology nothing i was quite appauled with his "profesional " approach to a customer.
So all in all i wont be visiting this place again, yes it has lots of different types of food,yes its an easy going place ,yes most of the staff were polite but the food was awful and that is what your paying for at the end of the day.
