I'll give anyone and anything a fair go. And I do enjoy mexican food. This bar/restaurant is on the small side, the bar hits you imediatley you walk in the room, and it is a cramped walk to the dinning area, that you might overlook if you did not know it was there. They have another dining area upstairs which is larger, and more spacious, we however were seated downstairs. We ordered our drinks (a pitcher of lager) which ariived promptly, and as we were hungry, eagerly awaited our started (I was having nachos!). An HOUR later our starter arrived!! And only after numerous requests from the staff. The waiter, who claimed to also be the manager ("Deputy, the manager is not on duty tonight madam!") was most unapologetic, claiming that they had a large party upstairs and that was why there were delays! Now I am sorry, but one party of people no matter how large should not bring a restaurant to a grinding halt, It was pre-booked and they should have had more staff. I told the waiter I wanted compensation of some sort for the unaccepatable wait and he grudgingly offered another pitcher of lager (Worth about £4!!) No way matey Jim! I told him that we would each choose a cocktail of our choice, and that we would expect to get it free. He agreed with a moody shrug of his shoulders and we did get £12+ worth of drinks out of it. The meal was so so, the Nachos did not touch the sides we were so hungry when they arrived. I had enchiladas for mains, and they were tasty and filling. We daren't order dessert, we would have been there til Christmas. The Service here was appaling, sulky uncaring staff, slooooooow and just very uninviting. The decor downstairs was cramped and the surroundings very noisy. Upstairs decor faired better (much better layout etc). The food was acceptable but not memorable, the prices average for mexican food: £3-5 starter, £5-12 main. The cockt
ails were lovely though! Not advisable for wheelchair users as the toilets were up a flight of stairs. I would recommend you don't visit this place, rather get yourselfs down to Las Iguanas in St Nicholas Street, lively, fun, quick service and good food!
A small Mexican restaurant in Bristol, probably overlooked by many people. The restaurant area is on the ground floor and a bar on the top floor. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. When I went with my boyfriend, we had the Tapas for two, which at £24 was reasonably priced. We were served four courses: first, a chilli based started with nachos. Secondly, a combination plate including, amongst other things, squid rings, onion rings, jalapeno poppers and a selection of dips. Thirdly we had chicken wings in a chilli / BBQ sauce. Finally, we had chicken fajitas, with 3 per person. The portions were huge, and very tasty. Service was prompt, polite and efficient. We didn't have to wait too long between courses, but similarly you could tell that they hadn't been sat around waiting for us to finish. The kitchen is open plan, allowing diners to see in. There were a range of drinks to choose from with bottles of house wine ranging from about £7:00, cocktails (midweek promotion of 2 for £5), beers and soft drinks. A little irritating is the way that a woman walks around the restaurant asking if you want tequila slammers. It is intrusive if you are trying to have a quite meal. All in all, if you like Mexican food then you should definitely try tequila worm.
