Noisy and busy (TGI Friday's (Cheltenham))

I never expect a lot from TGI Friday's when I visit it and I didn't get it when I recently visited the one in Cheltenham, situated in a glaring position on the Gloucester Road. You can't miss it, in its red and white blinding colours. You see, I've never been a big fan of clone restaurants and this is one in all its glory. There is simply nothing to distinguish it from every other TGIs I've been too.

That being said, the restaurant staff were helpful and welcoming upon arrival. You had the usual Americana memorabilia stuck to every wall and roof in the area, while the decor was generally colourful, busy and glaring. Don't expect a quiet, romantic meal here. I made that mistake once; and never again. You always have the ubiquitous birthday meal or hen party inside. Que the usual "Happy Birthday" sung by the staff, terribly. If there was anything more off-putting to your meal, it is that.

The food itself is good with large portions of your usual American food - burgers and chips taking pride of place in the menu, with a lack of healthy food, like salads, particularly prominent. A typical standard burger meal will set you back a £10 and is tasty and filling. Drinks from the bar are very expensive indeed. A vodka and Coke was about £4.

TGIs will never win any awards for its originality and food. Its fast-paced service in a bustling and noisy atmosphere with little regard to a "pleasant dining experience". If you're booking a party or hen night, I couldnt recommend it enough; otherwise I woluldn't bother - and certainly don't ever take a date there.
