Advantages: Good prices and lovely location right on the seafront.
Disadvantages: It's a long way from Sheffield...
TGI Friday's are all over the place, so I wasn't too surprised to find one in Sliema in Malta. Malta is very Anglicised so a lot of store and restaurant chains we're used to over here can be found there.
The branch at Sliema has got to be the best one I've ever been in. It's a kind of an old sandstone fortress, with a wonderful arched ceiling inside and it's right on the seafront. I was staying in a hotel just across the road, with my husband. After a few days we started getting fed up of the mysteries of foreign food and had a craving for a good old fashioned burger, so we decided to give it a try for lunch.
What a revelation! The prices are fantastic! Easily a third less than you'd pay in Britain, where I think their meals are really overpriced. This was Christmas 2007, so obviously Euro exchange rates will have changed since then, but it will probably still work out cheaper.
We sat next to a window and had a view along the beach, which makes a change from our local TGI in Sheffield where we have a view of a carpark and a dual carriageway!
In case you've not been to TGI's at all, here's a quick rundown of the menu:
MAIN COURSES
Cheeseburger
Friday's burger (bacon and cheese)
Barbecue burger
Burger with mushrooms onions and swiss cheese
Peppercorn burger.
Chicken fingers
Chicken breast with mushroom and mozarella
Cajun chicken fingers
BBQ roasted chicken
Sizzling chicken and cheese
Baby back ribs
Filet mignon
Peppercorn New York Steak
Steak and mushrooms
Texas ribeye
Jack Daniels Chicken
Jack Daniels Steak
Fish and chips
Jack Daniels glazed ribs
Chicken Fajita
Beef Fagita
Chicken and Beef Fajita
DESSERTS
Hot fudge sundae
Mocha mud pie
Oreo madness
Double choc fudge brownie
Red and white Strawberry shortcake
Ice cream
Then there are the usual things such as cocktails, coffee etc.
We tried the barbecue burger and the peppercorn burger which both came with fries, pickles and salad. The portions were a fair size, the food was good and the service was great. As it was lunchtime it was fairly quiet, but it looks a good place to go in an evening.
We'd go there again, except we don't intend to go to Malta again. That's another story entirely...
Summary: A good branch of TGI's if you're visiting Malta.
