Advantages: You dont have to climb 39 steps to get in the place

Disadvantages: Steer clear if you want cooked food!

I was invited to the 39 steps for our office christmas party and on hearing it achieved the accolade of Cheshire restaurant of the year 07-08 was very excited at the prospect of dining there.

The starter of Lake trout and potted shrimp was adequate and we all eagerly awaited the arrival of our main courses.

My main was Turkey with all the trimmings and on arrival was a well arranged plate, so you can imagine my disappointment when on cutting into my sizeable breast of Turkey that it was completey raw in the middle (I mean meat on the slab raw), (quite frightening when you are 30 weeks pregnant).

On complaining to the waiter my meal was promptly taken away and I was assured a fresh one would be provided. The manager was not overly apologetic about the situation I might add.

After the rest of our party had finished their meal my "fresh" plate arrived. It might be informative to add here that another of our party (also heavily pregnant) had the same problem as me, ie: her Turkey also completely raw.

My fresh plate consisted of reheated vegetables, which could be a good thing because I nearly broke my teeth on the original serving!! I mean I like al dente but perhaps the chef was aiming for the veg to be as raw as my turkey. The potatoes (mini roast in variety) were now a deep shade of brown and it appears that my original Turkey had been cut into two strips and fried. As it was now what I can only describe as burnt and difficult to get my knife through, it can only be described as similar in consistency to a dunlop tyre.

The dessert of Christmas pudding was as per the starter, adequate but not overly impressive, and remember folks we're talking about cheshire restaurant of the year here not the Ship Inn next door, for the price you would expect alot more than the service received by the 39 steps, and you might think that the management team would at least offer some complimentary vouchers, or even a bottle of wine on the house, maybe even a sincere apology could have persuaded me to return and give them a second chance, but no we were told in no uncertain terms that no compensatory offering would be forthcoming and we were just "trying" it on when we made a complaint about the whole experience.

I would not even serve this food to my dog so I certainly won't be recommending it to my friends or family. Many of whom dine in the Cheshire area and I feel like I would be doing most people a favour in advising them to steer well clear!

Summary: Disgusting
