Advantages: A good fish and chip

Disadvantages: pricey

Finding a decent fish and chip shop can sometimes be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Sometimes you can pay well over the odds for the turgid scrag-ends of chips, followed by battered batter, with a little bit of fish somewhere lurking inside. That is why sometimes you just need to chance it and go for broke, which is what we did on our recent trip to Hereford.

We were actually looking for a Wetherspoons that my lying Iphone promised was just around the corner, however we did find The Crispy Cod just behind the main shopping precinct. I really hoped the cod wasn't too crispy, but went in anyway and ordered four lots of fish and chips.

Fish and chips at The Crispy Cod cost us around five pounds twenty each. Cod seems to be one of the most expensive things to buy at any chip shop these days, but you certainly got your money's worth. The chips were fresh and tasty without any obvious scrag-ends. The fish was excellent, not too much batter and full of taste. We eat our fish and chips on a bench around the corner, and by the end of our lunch we were well fed.

The Crispy Cod had a very accommodating server who was helpful throughout the time I waited for my food. The shop itself was clean and tidy with a generic 'fish and chip' shop look. Large menu and stainless steel facades populated the front of the shop. At the back of the shop was a small café area, which when I was there had no one eating there.

The Crispy Cod was very good choice for a takeaway lunch if ever you are in Hereford. Recommended.
