“ Address: London Road / Charlton Kings / Cheltenham GL52 6HT / England „
Formerly housing the primary years of St Edwards School, The Langton was revamped and refurbished to a high standard to become on the the finest eating establishments in the town. On immediate inspection, I was suprised by the high standard of decor and the attractive interior, which was certainly not done on the cheap. With dozens of interesting artefacts around the bar/restaurant and wood laminate flooring, as well as spacious, carpeted areas, this restaurant breathes "expense" at you, upon arrival. Tables are spaced far apart, with comfortable leather sofas and cushions for the lucky ones who arrive early. The bar area is at the back of The Langton and is classy and clean. Jeans are allowed in here; but you'd be better wearing trousers. The barmen were all Eastern European and helpful as can be. Drinks are expensive but brought to you in a stylistic atmosphere, with a high-class of clinentele. Eating and dining is an experience all in itself, with some delicious dishes. Again, though not cheap (you are looking at a at least £15 for a main course), it is served with care and attention. The fish dishes are the nicest and taste fresh and well-prepared, with some attractive and decorative plates. There is an outside seating area which, again, is clean and attractively designed. The Langton is never busy during the day but suffers from overbooking at night, so do book early to avoid disappointment. It can be quite hot and stuffy inside. The old building (which, naturally was never designed as a restaurant) evidently suffers from a lack of air conditioning in the summer so be warned. If you have been to Zizis in Cheltenham in the summer heat, you'll know what I'm talking about. The Langton has not forgotten its roots with various pictures from a bygone era on the wall, including a large photo of the former St Edwards First School in the bar area. It is a stylish, modern bar which has an air of exclusivity and class enveloping it; beautifully decorated in a style reminiscent of a reform club or stately home. All in all, well worth a visit.
Traditional hospitality in a modern pub atmosphere.
