The Lounge Cafe and Bar is situated in Stone High Street, Staffordshire. Forthose of you that are not familiar with Stone, it is a very small town, with a small high street that runs through the centre of the town. Within the high street you have very minimla shops, just enough to get what you want, as most people travels to shop to the nearby Stoke on Trent, or Stafford. Within the high street, the bar several pubs and cafe bars and more pubs within the surrounding area, however the Lounge Cafe and Bar has got to be one of my favourites.
I visit Stone quite often as I have a lot of friends that live there and we kind of take it turns to make the twenty minute drive. The Lounge is situated in the middle of the high street which has a small square in it. It has a very modern and pleasant appearance and give me impression that it should be situated more continental. During the summer it is excellent as they have plenty of tables and chairs within the square where you soak up the rays or in our country not so much, and have a quiet beer a you watch the world go by. However in the winter, its inside only as its too cold, however they do tend to leave a couple of tables and chairs outside for the people that smoke.
When you walk into the Lounge, it is quite modern, with laminate floor throughout, leather couches dotted here and there and the rest of seating is wooden tables and chairs. Greeting you directly on your right is a fridge which displays many of the desserts that they have on offer, trifles, gateau and cheesecakes, all which look delightful, however I don't get tempted in as I don't have a sweet tooth at all.
The bar is situtated next to the dessert fridge, and they stock a wide range of beers, wines and spirits and are always happy to mix you a cocktail or in our case, a strange concoction upon request. The staff here are very friendly and treat you as their friends as opposed to their customers however if you go in as many times as we do, then our faces are not to be forgotton.
The menu is very extensive, however I have never eaten here, only the odd snack here and there. I did have a sausage and cheese panini served with curly fries a couple of weeks ago which was very hot when served, too hot to start off with and I had to leave it for a little while. The portion sizes are very generous and it is good food for the prices. They do tend to specialise a lot in pasta dishes, however I don't particularly like pasta so I unable to comment on these dishes.
Stone is a very small town and there is not a great deal of nightlife, it is certainly somewhere that you would not travel to go to, and only really attracts the locals, as a taxi fare to the nearest place would be at least £25. The Lounge however at 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights loses its tables and turns into a trendy bar, that has its own resident DJ. Its not my ideal place however when its my turn to go to Stone, there isn't a great deal to do, or many places to go that are better. Its fine until around midnight or just after, however a little later it attracts the younger generation which take over and in my opinion it turns into chav city, thats my cue to leave then.
In general, its one of the nicer places in the Stone area and nice for a quick coffee and catch up, in pleasant surroundings. Load better in Summer though when you can chill out outside.
